I listened to the music thumping downstairs. The kids were out of town with Nikki and Jay were taking them on a weekend trip to San Diego which Jay won from his work. I had exams so I had to stay.
"Can I come in?" Johnson asked opening the door down my staircase. I didn't answer, but sure enough he came quietly up the stairs. His face was pale and his eyes red with anger.
"Did they leave?" I asked him wiping my face. He shook his head no.
"I invited him." He said aftewr a minute. I looked at him in disbelief.
"Why-"
"No Kayla. Listen. I know you still love him. I can see it everytime someone mentions him. And I know I ruined you birthday but he came. He knew what he was going to do too. He came here to get you back." He said breathing heavy. He sat down on the bed next to me. "He loves you Kayla. No matter what he says, I know he came here for YOU!"
"But. I hurt him... he probably already moved on... with Reilly. I know she really likes him. So-"
"He doesn't go to school anymore, he does online now. He's moving down here anyways." My heart raced inside of my chest.
"I can't. I can't talk to him otherwise I'll end up just like this." I said through tears. JJ wiped my face and held me close, rocking back and fourth.
"Let's go have a good time, and we'll all talk later okay?" I nodded and got up. I looked at myself in the mirror. "He'd be stupid to not fight hard to get you back, especially with Jake in your life."
"I don't like Jake like that." I chuckled.
"Sure kiddo." He said as we made our way downstairs.
The house wasn't as packed anymore, and everyone was talking in the living room without the pounding music. I sat next to Nate and he smiled at me.
"Aye there she is." He said throwing his arm over my shoulder. I smiled at Jack and he just starred back. I looked at Mike who was watching Sam who was watching... me?
"How long are y'all staying?" I looked up at Nate and he smirked.
"We're moving here silly!" He said pinching my cheek.
"WHAT?!" I guess I yelled. "WHEN?!"
"Well, we're going to live with the Jacks."
"Really?" I asked surprised. I glanced at JJ who smiled and stood up.
"How about we all go to the pier!" He asked and I nodded happily.
I led the way outside my house and down the street. I folded my arms across my chest and shivered, California was warm... just not at night in Febuary.
"Here." Sam said handing me his jacket. I smiled and took it, wrpping it around my shoulders.
When we got to the pier, the moon hung over the ocean and it was absolutly gorgeous. I sat on the edge, my feet dangled. I heard the guys making vines or whatever, but I just wrapped the jacket tighter around myself.
"Hey Kay, we're going to head home. We have to be in the stupid at 6 tomorrow morning." Gilinsky said touching my head and messing up my strait hair.
"I'm going to stay here." I said and I heard them whisper and the foot steps went farther and farther out of my hearing radius.
"I'm sorry." I heard Sam say, sitting down next to me. "I was just furious that you could leave like that, I mean I loved you." He swallowed hard. "I still love you." I looked at him in the eyes. They were dark and full of hurt.
"Sam... I-" He pressed his lips to mine softly, I kissed back.
Deep down somewhere in my heart, I was doing what I wanted, but this wasn't right.
I pulled away and stood up, walking back to land. Sam caught up to me and ran ahead, turning to look back at me.
"Kayla?" I turned and looked him deep in the eyes.
"I'm done Sam. With whatever this is." I said brushing past him and leaving him to look act the view.
***Back home***
I laid in bed in pitch blackness. I thought about what happened tonight. Johnson was right. Sam did want me back... but I couldn't deal with Sam right now.
Even though he was the best thing that ever- Stop Kayla. Don't do this... You're only making it worse.
I grabbed my phone and scrolled to Jake's contact. I texted him quickly and waited for a reply.
From Jake: Who's this?
To Jake: It's Kayla Jake!:)
From Jake: Dude... I can't believe you actually thought I was your friend. BTW you don't have a job anymore.. I don't like working with freaks. The only reason I talked to you was because I thought you were an easy target, but you're harder than I hoped. Anyways... BYE FREAK
I threw my phone out of my hands and it bounced on the carpet on the floor. I felt tears weld in my eyes.
What did I do to deserve this... like really... what?
***A week later****
I slapped my alarm clock and slowly sat up, wlaking to my bathroom and observed my puffy eyes I heard my ring tone go off and I picked the phone up, rubbing my eyes and clearing my throat.
"Hello?"
"You coming to the studio?" Johnson asked into the phone.
"Yeah, be there soon."
I slipped on a pair of yoga capris and a tanktop that said 'Cali Luh.'
I drove about 30 minutes until I reached the studio. I ran my fingers through my straitish hair and walked in.
"Hello? Do you have an appoitment?" The receptionist asked me. I shook my head at her.
"Jack and Jack are my friends, I should be on the list." I said and she scanned a clip board.
"Unless you have a guy name, you're not on here." The lady said, giving me an unsure look.
"No check again! They cou-"
"Ma'am I'm going to have to call security." She said picking up the phone.
"No no no, she's with me." Sam said coming into view from behind a door. She looked at him and he nodded.
"Fine. Go ahead." She said. I opened the door and walked down the familiar hallway. I could hear Sam trailing behind me, but it wasn't until he grabbed my elbow and spun me around to acknowledge his presence.
"You know... you've gotten super stubborn, but it doesn't mean I'm giving up on you. You were the worst thing that ever happened to me. The worst things are the best things. And I can't live another day without calling you mine." Sam said. I felt tears weld in my eyes.
I still wasn't over what Jake did.
"Kayla? What's wrong?" He said quieter, his smile fading. I shook my head as the tears fell.
"I I I didn't mean to hurt you Sam." I cried and I felt his strong arms wrap around my body. I breathed in his minty smell. He put my face in his hands, and wiped the tears from my eyes.
I admired his face, the way his eyelashes seem to grow 2x as long when his eyes are full of sympathy.
"It's my fault Kayla. I just didn't know how to take it. I was so lost, and hurt." He said looking into my eyes. I leaned forward and pressed my lips to his.
"FINALLY!" Johnson yelled from behind us. I smiled and pecked his lips one more time. He wrapped me into a tight hug, before we walked into the studio.
