Elena's POV

My alarm blares at 6:00 AM, waking me from my very peaceful night of sleep. It's the first day of senior year, and I'm already dreading it.

Why should I be excited? Klaus is going to turn half of my high school into his army of hybrids, and Stefan is just going to sit idly by and let it happen.

And to top it all off, it's technically our one year anniversary. Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year, a day that forever changed my life. In both good ways and bad ways, I think to myself.

I'm also in a good mood though. I'm finally in a good place with Damon. We decided to be friends for now, and I really love being his friend. We've grown so close, and being around him just makes me feel so carefree and happy. And who knows, maybe something could happen in the future. And I really can't wait to find out.

But before anything can happen, we need to get Stefan under control. If we're ever going to defeat Klaus, we can't have Stefan as his evil partner in crime.

I got up early so that I could get ready and go to the boarding house in the morning, Damon and I needed to discuss a plan for saving Stefan.

I check my phone and see a text from Damon: You might not wanna come to the boarding house this morning, Stefan stopped by last night and decided he was going to stay here for awhile.

I immediately roll my eyes at the thought of humanity-less Stefan. I was actually looking forward to seeing Damon, but now I don't want to because I can't even look at Stefan. The wounds he gave me are still too fresh, literally and figuratively.

Fine, talk later? I send back.

Sure thing. Have a great first day ;) Typical flirty Damon response, and I couldn't help but smile at it. The littlest things about him have the biggest effect on me lately.

After brushing my naturally straight hair, I pick an outfit. I still have bite marks from when-well, you know. I don't need to relive it. I pick a tank top and denim shorts, a typical Elena Gilbert late summer outfit, but I add a scarf to cover up my scar. I look in the mirror, and I decide I look decent enough.

My phone dings, it's Bonnie, texting me that she's in my driveway. Perfect timing, I think to myself.

"Good morning Elena," She says monotone as I get into the passenger seat of her car.

"Someone's in a good mood," I reply sarcastically.

"You know I LOVE the first day of school!" She says sarcastically. We both hate the first day of school, unlike Caroline. "We still have to go get Caroline. She was running a little late."

"That's surprising. You know she loves the first day." I say matter-of-factly.

We drive in silence for a few minutes, just listening to the radio, before arriving at Caroline's house.

Care walks out, struggling to carry three coffee cups. She manages to walk over to my window. I roll it down and give her a questioning look.

"I got you guys coffees!" She says happily, this is a typical Caroline gesture. She hands me one and I hand it to Bonnie, and then she gives me mine. I take a sip and sigh as the delicious warm liquid glides down my throat.

"So that's why you were running late! Thanks Care!" Bon says sweetly.

"Yeah, can you run late more often?" I say, causing them both to laugh. Caroline gets in the back seat and Bonnie drives towards the school.
