Third Person POV
one month later

"Now boarding flight 2490 to JFK Airport, New York, first class."

Elena bolted up from their seats in the waiting area and Damon couldn't help but smile at her excitement that he adored. And when she turned back to smile at him lovingly, holding out one hand for him to grab, luggage in the other, he swore his heart may have skipped a beat.

The past month had been nothing but pure bliss. It seemed as if once the originals left town, a massive weight was lifted off the group. Everything just seemed, brighter. Everyone felt it, even Damon, who was not known for his perpetual good moods or optimism.

His brother had made a few joking comments early on about his drastic mood shift, but truthfully, he didn't care. He had absolutely no reason not to be happy. Their nemesis was gone, his brother was back, and he was with the girl of his dreams. Damon often found himself  smiling for no reason other than the fact that he was happy, or humming some cheerful tune. He even found himself singing some old love song from the 80's to himself in the shower. Elena poked her head in to tease him about it, but he got her back by pulling her in with him. At first she had squealed playfully but then she gave in and, well, she had been very late to school that day.

Damon and Elena's relationship was stronger than ever. Some nights she would sleep at his house and some nights he would sleep at her's, but they both had space when they wanted it. Although they were still in that new relationship stage where they never wanted to be away from eachother, so it was rare that they would spend more than one night apart. Considering Damon's little experience at being in a relationship, Elena thought he fit the boyfriend role very well. He surprised her often with flowers or gifts or even dates. She always would admonish him for spoiling her too much but he just shook his head at her and insisted it wasn't too much. Nothing was too much for his girl, and nothing made him happier than making her happy.

Yep, he was officially a sap. But it didn't matter; he was perfectly, incandescently, happy.

And he felt his happiness grow even more when he looked to his left at his girlfriend looking out the window excitedly. They were seated in first class on their way to New York for the first couple days of her Thanksgiving break, and then going back to spend the holiday at home.

"Excited?" He asked her with a smirk.

"Beyond excited." She replied, giving him a peck on the cheek.

"Champagne for the lovely couple?" The flight attendant asked them with a smile.

"Yes please," Damon replied. She poured them two glasses before walking away to tend to more passengers.

"Cheers," she said with a bright smile, clinking their glasses together.

They sipped them throughout the beginning of the flight, whilst talking about all the things they wanted to do in New York. Elena loved the excitement in his eyes when he told her about all the things he wanted to show her. He even told her that a few days wouldn't be nearly enough to see everything, and that they could come back another time. She was absolutely on board with that plan.
