Chapter Six
Delayla Cruz
I woke up in sick bay with Lion looming over, with a worried expression on his face, "What happened?" I asked.
"Juan hit you with a football" Lion answered.
I sat up in anger and groaned at the sudden rush of pain, "He did it on purpose didn't he" I gritted my teeth.
Lion furrowed his eyebrows and shook his head, "I don't think he meant it, after all, he made sure he was the only one who brought you to sickbay" Lion explained.
"He did?" I blinked surprised, "I thought you brought me here."
"He wouldn't let me" Lion grumbled.
I raised an eyebrow and lightly punched him in the arm, "You're strong, I think you can take me away from Juan."
Lion brightened up, "Maybe I can" He said, his tone laced with confidence.
I gave him a weird look and stood up as the nurse appeared in sick bay, "You can go now, but be mindful of your head" She instructed, "Take it easy."
I thanked her and Lion and I went out of sick-bay, "Hey are they still doing football tryouts?" I asked.
Lion shook his head, "We stopped when Juan hit you with the football."
My shoulders slumped, "What about cheerleading?"
Lion shrugged not knowing, "Coach didn't do a thing, he just dismissed us and told us to go back to class."
"Okay" I answered.

That night Juan apologised to me, "Sorry I hit you with a football" He came into the room with a guilty look, "I didn't mean it."
"It's fine" I forgave him, "Your aim was just really bad."
He laughed, his expression brightened up a bit, I smiled back at him.

The next day Lion, Violet, Andy and I were in homeroom listening to the morning notices, "Violet and Delayla you are called back for cheerleading" Mrs read out loud.
Violet and I looked at each other and squealed, "We made it in!" I said.
"No your not" Lion interjected, "You just made it to another round, your not officially in yet."
"And how do you know?" Violet questioned angrily.
"The morning notices specifically said that you are 'called back' to cheerleading" Lion explained, "You haven't made it in."
"Yeah thanks for bringing our hopes down!" shot out Violet, sarcastically.
"I'm just being truthful" Lion put his hands up.
"Honesty is what makes better relationships" Andy interjected, "Deal with it."
"But sometimes it's better if you weren't too honest" I added.
"I think it would be better if you were honest" Lion said.
"I'll keep that in mind" I said.
That lunch Violet and I went to the fields to meet up for cheerleading because we were called back. "I wonder if we actually did make it in" Violet said excitedly bouncing around me.
"Why do you want to get into cheerleading so much?" I asked.
Violet sighed, "My parents want me to get involved, apparently they think that I'm not getting involved enough!"
I nodded understanding, Violet's mum was involved in a lot of things when she was in high school, I think she wanted her daughter to do the same.
"What about you?" Violet asked, "Why are you doing cheerleading all the sudden?"
I shrugged, "I'm doing it for Lion" I answered.
Violet gave me a look and wiggled her eyebrows, "Oooh! I'm sensing something between you two."
I raised an eyebrow at her, she studied me for a moment, "You have a crush on Lion don't you?"
I didn't stop walking, "Don't tell" I said.
"Well, I love contributing in making relationships happen, but if you don't want me to interfere then it's your choice" Violet sighed wistfully.
We arrived at the fields, Coach was already there with Sally, her minions and twenty other girls, "Violet, Delayla, right on time" He greeted us smiling.
Sally and her minions scowled at us, Violet stuck her tongue at them. Coach didn't notice a thing, "All you girls were called back for another round, the top fifteen will make it in" Coach instructed, "Come back on Monday next week with a cheerleading routine, you can be in groups if you want to" Coach said.
We looked at him astounded, from the looks of the girls faces, half of them had no idea how to cheerlead. Sally and her friends looked pretty confident, we gulped and walked away.
"So how was it?" Andy asked as we joined Lion and him for lunch.
"Bad" Violet answered, "Coach wants us to team up and make a cheerleading routine, all by ourselves."
Andy sucked in air, wincing, "Don't worry" Lion said, "I can help you guys."
Violet narrowed her eyes, "And what do you know about cheerleading."
"I know that you shouldn't underestimate me just because it's a girls sport" Lion simply answered enjoying his lunch.
"Sexist" Violet muttered under her breath.
"I heard that" Lion warned.
"Am I the only one or does Juan have the exact same lunch as Delayla, again" Andy asked.
My eyes widened as I looked over at Juan with the exact same lunch as me, how was I going to explain that. This time I pretended not to hear Andy and started to talk about a completely different subject, Andy eyed me carefully.
"Hey, why don't we go to Delayla's house for cheerleading?" Violet suggested.
"Yeah" Lion agreed. "We should!"
"I feel so left out" Andy grumbled, "Can I come along?"
"Sure" Violet said.
"Well?" Lion asked turning his attention towards me.
Andy and Violet looked at me waiting for an answer.
I started to sweat, the image of Juan came across my mind. What was I going to do? "Yes" I answered weakly.
They cheered.
