"Wake up, Princess." Lance said, jabbing his socked foot into Keith ribs as he slept sprawled across the bed in his boxers with an arm over his face. He groaned. Lance shoved harder and Keith rolled off of the other side of the bed.
"Jesus." He cursed. "What time is it?"
"Time for you to get your meds and hurry the fuck up so we can go to breakfast."
Keith sat up and looked out the doorway to see the line of kids waiting for meds. "Fuck. That's going to take, like, 10 minutes."
Lance shrugged. "Serves you right. Put some clothes on and go get drugged up."
Keith pulled his hair up into a ponytail and threw on sweatpants and a shirt. At breakfast, the boys sat together.
"So Lance."
"Yeah?" He asked, attractively shoving french toast into his face.
"I got some discharge information." Keith said, hesitantly.
"And?" Lance prodded.
Keith took a breath. "I leave tomorrow."
Lance was quiet for a second, swallowed a sip of water and leaned back in his chair. "And you've been here for how long?"
"Two weeks tomorrow."
Lance grinned. "And you still don't have shoes?"
Keith smiled and laughed lightly. "Fuck off, Lance."
"We just have to make tonight count."
"Yeah." Keith breathed. "Our last night together."
Lance shrugged. "Not forever."
"No." Keith said, forcing a small smile. "Not forever."
They spent time at art making their bracelets next to each other. They didn't talk. They didn't need to. Finally, Kieth broke the silence.
"Damn. I tied it wrong and now the whole thing is fucked."
Lance looked over. "Nope. Just give it to me. I'll fix it."
"Dude the knots are tiny."
"I have small fingers. It's great for lining cocaine."
"What?" Keith asked, surprised.
Lance laughed. "I'm kidding."
"About the small fingers or the cocaine?"
Lance laughed again. "Just hand me your bracelet."
Keith gave up possession and watched as Lance undid the tiny knots that made up the wide band of the bracelet. He handed it back to Keith.
"Thanks." Keith said, setting to work again.
"There." Lance finally said. "So you don't forget me." He said, handing Keith his perfect bracelet.
"Are we allowed to have them on the floor?"
"Yeah. It just can't be long enough to strangle yourself."
Keith laughed. "We are in a seriously fucked up place."
"We're seriously fucked up."
"Oh yeah." Keith said, laughing lightly.
Lance leaned back in his chair and stretched. "I gotta say- I'm pretty bummed that you're leaving."
Keith pulled the string on his bracelet tightly. "And when are you getting out?"
"Thursday."
Keith quickly turned to look at Lance. "Wait- are you serious?"
