PRESENT DAY
The door soundlessly opens, revealing a cramped, cushy bedroom. The room contains a crooked wardrobe crowded with trinkets and photographs, a rickety nightstand adorned with a single lamp, and a small twin bed. The comforter, which matched the colour of the walls, shifted slightly under the nest of stuffed toys and comfort items.
"I am here as an alarm clock for my niece!" The room's intruder exclaimed, flipping the light switch on the wall beside them.
A raspy growl crescendoed from the pile of soft, resulting in the person underneath wiggling their head into the room's bright light.
"Get out," the girl hissed, burrowing back into her nest.
Her uncle strode over to the bed, puffing into his more irritable, sickly form. He patted the centre of the comfy pile firmly, prompting further squirming.
"Y/n, it's almost noon. Get up, please."
The nest elongated from spherical to cylindrical. Without warning, the girl rolled off of the bed, blankets and all. She landed on the carpeted floor with a muffled 'oomph!'
A sigh from the small man and a burst of steam reveals he's not impressed.
The blankets unfurled in a manner similar to a cocoon splitting from the inside. Out crawled a disheveled teen girl, begrudgingly waving to her uncle.
"G'morning, Uncle Toshi," She yawned, covering her mouth with one hand. Her uncle just grunted in reply, pointing at the small digital clock on the wardrobe. The time read 11:37 AM, which irked the girl, as it technically still was the morning.
"You've missed training. I'm sure your father is going to be pleased when he hears, which will be a treat for the both of us," Toshinori replies, words dripping with sarcasm.
Y/n drops her head into her hands with a gentle slap, rubbing the sleep from her face. Damn it, she thinks, I shouldn't have slept in.
"Alright, I'll get ready. I'm going to hide on the roof for a while. Don't tell Dad," She warns, waggling her finger sleepily at her uncle. He smiles in return, quickly exiting the room.
Y/n roots through her drawers before settling her attire; lounge pants and a hoodie, one that rightfully belongs in the drawers of her best friend.
Y/n had met Izuku Midoriya two years before, on the day she transferred from home tutoring into public school. Shortly before, Y/n and her therapist had decided to try public school to familiarize herself with children her age. She was understandably nervous, which led to her and Izuku bonding through their quiet, rule-abiding natures. They became inseparable instantaneously, sharing an interest in All-Might merchandise, following the stats of Pro-Heroes, and keeping notes. Izuku was quirkless until a few weeks previous, when he finally met his idol, who transferred part of his mysterious quirk to the young boy. Y/n didn't know all the details, and she wanted to let Izuku have some secrets. After all, she had quite a few.
Y/n finished her outfit with a pair of sneakers, retreating to the roof to avoid her father. When she arrived, she was surprised to find her Uncle waiting with her favorite snack.
"I see you've stolen another of young Midoriya's sweatshirts," Toshinori observed, cocking a shapely brow.
"It's a hoodie." She corrected under her breath, pointing to the evident hood.
"You shouldn't speak to the symbol of peace like that, honey." All Might retaliated, snapping his fingers. Y/n's lip curled, and she shivered with embarrassment.
"What does it matter? I'm going to give them back eventually," Y/n continued, taking the snacks from Toshinori's outstretched hand.
"Exactly when, my young niece?" He prompts, brow furrowing.
