Fuck it must be that guy, he must be over. I really don't wanna go back down there but I'll probably have to. Maybe this is my chance for one of my friends to see him. Maybe Eben will recognise him from somewhere. Either that or he'll just think he's extremely sketchy like I do.
"Bro I think that's the guy. Come on we'll go see if we can see them from the stairs" I say as I get up and Eben nods, following behind me quietly.
We reach the stairs and go down a couple, the two sitting in the living room. The annoying thing was is that we saw the back of his head meaning we'd have to actually go down there to see him. "We're gonna have to go down there E so just act normal like we're gonna get some more food" I say as I start walking down the stairs. "so yeah the homework due in two days" Eben said starting a conversation like we had been talking the whole time. "We need to finish that calculus homework we've got, what pages was it again?" I ask playing along as we make our way to the bottom of the stairs and into the kitchen. "Uh I am not sure we'll have to check I wrote it down somewhere" he answers and I nod with a small 'ok cool'
I grab out a bag of tai sweet chilli Doritos (they're the best @ me I dare you) and two cans of soda. We start walking back to the stairs as my mum stops us by the living room.
"Hey guys how's studying going or should I say lack there of?" She jokes. "It's going pretty good" Eben says nicely and I nod along smiling awkwardly as the guy stares at us.
"Oh right you two this is Jeff, he's becoming a close friend of mine. Jeff this is my kid Corbyn and his friend Eben." She says introducing us.
Jeff. Close friend. Oh god this is a romance waiting to happen.
"Hi" Eben and I reply at the same time earning side glances and smiles to tug at our lips. "Nice to meet you boys" he says and smiles. "We should probably get back to studying so yeah have fun, bye" I say quickly and send them a smile, pulling Ebens arm and rushing up the stairs. As we head back to my room all I hear are laughs and I roll my eyes.
"Bro that guy is kinda sketchy" Eben says as he makes a face at me, which I laugh at. "His voice is kinda weird and deep but eh I mean did you see how happy my mom was?" I ask and sigh. Eben comes over and pats my shoulder. "I don't know how hard this must be but you gotta give the man some respect for making your mom so happy" he said softly with a small smile on his face. "Eben you're literally amazing and always know what to say what the fuck. Thanks bro. You're right." I respond feeling a little better.
"I know I am" He states proudly and puffs out his chest to which I just laugh at. "Shut up" I mumble and hit his arm softly.
"We should get to studying" I say in a dull tone. "Ugh probably"
And that's what we did, for about half an hour before we got distracted again. Then Eben had to go home so I went on my phone until I got tired.
