"Guys you're supposed to help and tell me what to do!" I say with a pout. "Look Corbyn, I know you still miss your dad and everything but I think you should let your mom be happy." Jonah said, the other boys nodding along. "Yeah I mean, maybe she just wants to feel love again, to help with her loss." Eben said as he joined us in the hallway. "I guess you guys are right, I shouldn't be pushing her back and away from being happy but it hurts to see that she's trying so hard to get back something she never can." I reply looking down sadly and my eyes gloss over at the reminder of my dad.
"Hey bud don't worry, it'll be ok" Jack said as he rubbed my back soothingly. I smile softly at all of them and head to class.
The whole day I couldn't get the guy out of my brain, he was so mysterious. I had so many questions that I wanted answers for. Maybe one day.
I couldn't concentrate but it was the first day, always going over shit that we already know. Honestly everything was a waste of time, like we get it, we don't need to be reminded that we have exams at the end of the year or that we'll be graduating.
I'm a gifted kid anyway so skipping out on a couple details wouldn't phase me too much. I just wanna go home, I wonder if that dodgy guy will be there.
I sure hope not.
Finally last bell. I shoot out of my seat, throwing my backpack over my shoulder and dashing out of the classroom hoping to avoid the rush of students.
I get out of the hallway and meet up with the boys. We do our handshake and grab our skateboards. The end of school was always like this, the best part of my day. School finishing and meeting up with the boys where we all skate home together. It was nice, the wind blowing through my blonde hair and the sun beating down on my tanned skin. Perfect.
Girls would always call out to us, telling us how hot we looked. I ignored them while the others smiled or waved. I'm usually social but I've been feeling extremely different lately.
I arrive home with Eben because he decided to tag along. It was regular for one an other to go home with someone else. Our parents were all great friends and we would text them eventually to tell them where we were. It was great having friends that live close by.
We both walk in and flick our skateboards up into our hands, carrying them inside after dumping our bags by the couch. I go into the living room, Eben following in suit.
"Hey momma" I said and kisses her on the cheek, we were extremely close and I love her to death. "Hey mom" Eben said and smiled. Saskia smiling back. "How was your first day back?" She asked.
"Fuc-dging boring" Eben said, saving himself. My mom looked at him and laughed. "Of course It was E, how about you baby?" She said, asking me. "Same old same old, talking about what they year had in store and stuff." I said as she nodded along, showing she was listening.
"Well we're gonna go upstairs now, can we grab a packet of chips?" I asked and she gave us the thumbs up. I grabbed a pack and walked up the stairs, conversing with Eben as we went.
We got to my room and plopped down on my bed, kicking off our shoes. "So E what'd you wanna do?" I asked sitting up so I could look at him. "Video games" I rolled my eyes but laughed. "I should've known the answer." I said as I grabbed two controllers and chucked him one.
That's how we spent most of the afternoon until we heard laughing, obnoxious, loud, deep laughing.
