Two Months Later
"Let me see."
"Me first."
"Wait, let's look at it together, at the same time."
"Okay. At the count of. . . 1. . ."
"2. . ."
"3!"
The screen in the test stick flashed the word: PREGNANT.
They smiled at each other, love overflowing in their misty eyes. Richard lowered his head and placed a gentle kiss on her tummy.
"We're going to have a baby," Megan whispered with awe and wonder.
All of a sudden, from behind their bedroom door, they heard excited shrieks, whoops of joy and hands clapping.
"We're going to be grandpas and grandmas!"
"I have a nephew! I'm claiming it, he's a boy!"
"We'll be the best godparents ever!"
"I'll be a nanny again!"
Resignedly, Richard and Megan exchanged amusing looks before rolling their eyes and shaking their head.
It was time to change the locks and sweep the room for bugs.
Again.
