Lydia D'Norse:

I sat upon my throne-- which of course was just my mind-slave Randy crouched over on the ground-- watching the projection in the sky as I was told to only moment's earlier by Makenna's disembodied voice over the hidden loudspeakers.

I had no idea what they wanted to show me, but as the screen lit up, I nearly fell backwards off my throne.

"Now the three of you please go in order, say your names, affinity, and relation to the Mind Strong candidate, Lydia D'Norse," Drystan prompted from off-screen.

"I'm Seraphim Villiers, Mind Strong, and I'm Lydia's fiancé," Seraphim said in his familiar deep voice. He was wearing the dress-shirt I bought him-- or I suppose, my parents bought for me to hive him. A show of support, I guess. Artificial, of course, but appreciated nonetheless.

"Interesting, and you?" Drystan asked, the camera focused in on the man next to Seraphim. My throat tightened at the sight of him.

"I'm Kindle Danthragnir, Fire Strong. My relation to Lydia? Ah, well..." He looked uncomfortable and I held my breath for what he was going to say. Kindle shrugged. "Seraphim's my best friend, so I guess I know her that way."

I glared down at the dirt.

"Miss Mind Strong Ma'am, why y'all so angry at the ground? Did it git on yer dress again?" Randy questioned.

"Shut up slave."

"I'm Maggie Darrow, a Fighter."

I transferred my glare to the stupid blonde on the screen. If anyone in this interview was going to sabotage my image, it'd be her.

"I only met Lydia a few times before she left for the competition. She um... She doesn't seem to like me much." Maggie blushed.

I scoffed. "Oh how cute. let's all admire the cuteness of perfect Miss Magdalyn. Watch as she blushes just to gain attention. Like she doesn't already have enough?"

"Don't take it to heart, Blondie, you know Lydia hates everyone," Kindle chuckled, pulling Maggie against his side.

I bit the inside of my cheek. It wasn't true, I didn't hate everyone. Most people, sure, but I didn't hate Kindle.

Everyone laughed, even Drysten and Makenna.

"Now, I'm sorry to pry, but Kindle you said you're a Fire Strong?" Makenna asked.

"Correct." Kindle nodded.

"And Maggie, you're a Fighter?"

Maggie nodded. "You might as well just call me fireproof. I don't have any of the cool skills that most Fighters get through training."

"Pity me, I'm such a special little snowflake because I'm weak and need everyone to protect me," I mocked.
