Flashback to the morning of the first day of freshman year...

Ian's POV

I am walking around my neighborhood at 5 a.m. In an attempt to distract my thoughts from thinking about the first day.

I don't really know what to expect because everyone is worried about Wesley graduating. I'll learn my way as I go I suppose.

At this time, it's bright enough for it to feel safe but still calm enough that allows me to think. No one is outside at this hour. Giving me a scene of loneliness but it is good loneliness.

This time I feels different, but I guess it's just my nerves because it's the first day.

Looking out into the streets, I see this girl who is walking in my direction. She has brown hair, down past her shoulders, with baggie maroon hoodie with I think...a basketball team on it but I wouldn't know. She is swimming in the hoodie. She looks so small.

Why would someone like her be out at this time? Why do I have this need to go talk to her? But that would be super creepy.

Does she live in this neighborhood? How have I never seen her before?

Oh no. She is getting closer. What do I say?

"hey," I said nervously. She looks up at me with an unreadable expression.

"hi?" the girl said softly, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Sorry if I scared you but- um.. what are you doing out here so late?" I say.

She smirks a little, "what are YOU doing out here so late?" and giggles.

She seems fun.

"The first day of high school is today and I'm stressing out, I needed some fresh air." I say  nonchalantly.

She nods and responds with a soft "me too."

"R-really! where are you going to highschool?" I ask.

She responds, "Lack-Lancer high." and looked down from messing up the name trying to hide her embarrassment. Awe.

"Woah, I'm going there too! Are taking the bus? wait- do you live in this neighborhood?" I question her... maybe to many questions.

"y-yeah I do live here. I live just over there." She points to 4 houses down from my house. How have I never see her before? Did she just move in? But I would've seen the moving trucks. "I think I'll take the bus cause walking would be terrible for the first day." she continues.

Should I offer to take her... no no no that'd be too creepy... but I could walk in with someone at least. Cause I only know some of my classmates from last year. But not enough to talk to really. Ugh, I'll just talk to her for now.

"Hello?" She waves her hand in front of my face. Snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Uh- sorry. What are your classes? We might have some classes together. I mean- if you care to share. You know, you might not want to talk to me ev-"

"Hey hey hey...what if I do wanna talk to you again? You seem like a nice guy. So stop freaking out", she hushes me while laughing, "I'll just meet you at the front of the school tomorrow and we can look over our classes, cause I don't have anything on me" she finished.

At least she wants to meet me at school.

"O-okay I'll meet you there" I smiled.

"Alright... See you then. I have to go home and get dressed. Buh-Bye!" She smiled and started backing up, and started to slowly walk away. I never got her name.

"Hey! I never got your name!" I scream. She was already down the street. Wow, she walks fast.

"It's Lillian!" She hollers back.

Lillian... such a cute name.
