Who Are You?
I never understood why people try so hard in school to get a job that they don’t even like.
To earn money that they wouldn’t be able to use until they retire.
And then realise that they spent their whole life doing something that they never enjoyed.
From a young age we are told what to do and what not to do.
But we were always told to be ourselves at the same time.
However, when we said what we like, our wishes were always denied.
Forced to be sculpted into what they wanted us to be, perfect, and not who we truly were.
Do you even remember who you were before society told you who you should be?
Do you even know who you are?
No no, not that person.
Not the person who others changed you to be.
Who are YOU?
Aspirations, dreams, wishes.
There are kids out there who are told to be doctors, lawyers and all of the above.
They tell their parents that they want to be just like them.
Pursue a career in those fields just to make them proud.
But what came from their mouths never matched what they aspired to be in their minds.
It never matched their thoughts.
A writer
A dancer
An artist
They spent countless hours, sleepless nights, memorising and studying for a subject that they never found an interest in.
Got a degree and realised that they weren’t happy with the career they had gotten.
You could've spent those moments working towards a career you'd fall in love with.
But no...
Sure, you’re earning money, lots of it.
But you are spending everyday working on something that bores you.
And it was all because of what your parents wanted you to do.
But what did YOU want to do?
"I want to be an artist."
"You can’t do that."
People only tell you that you can't do something because they can't seem to do it themselves.
So while your hands were busy writing prescriptions for your patients...
You had already forgotten who you were before who you were told to be.
You forgot how to draw, paint, create...
You forgot about the artist that you had planned to become.
You're no longer happy.
But you once were.
You’ve got to realise that people can tell you what they want you to do.
But it is completely your choice to whether or not you want to listen to them.
It’s your life in the end.
You’re the one living it.
Not them.
So tell me again
Who are you?-a.k.a

Beautiful Lies and Silent Truths
PoetryI like to write poems sometimes; some don't rhyme at all. Just like my stories, they are just random ideas that come to mind. I've been into slam poetry lately, so these may sound a lot like a slam poem instead.
