My heart fluttered as I took in the surroundings of my new home. It was so different to what I was used to. More spacious. More...free. A feeling of uneasiness took over me as I wondered, is this okay? Is it okay for us to be here? Somewhere so free? Outside it was beautiful. There was so much space, it felt so unreal.
I went into my new room, and was so happy to have such a big room, not the small one we all used to share back in our old home. From the window, I could see our back garden and a perfect view of the world beyond.
Truth was, this was the most free I had ever been. It sounds pathetic, but it's true. Back in our old town, we were not allowed to do anything, we were restricted from doing so many things, I often wondered if it was our life at all. To some people, that might sound strange. But to those who lived in the same area as us knew it was normal.
There were rules and regulations, we had to live in a certain way, and anything that was not allowed could lead to punishment. The way we lived and behaved was all controlled by 'The Tower' which was what the people in charge were called.
The only reason why we're here is because my foster dad, Joe, had a new job in Seoul, so we had to move. But can people like us fit in with other people who aren't like us?
