I stood with my friend in the middle of Times Square.
"Do we really have to be here?'
I asked and stood next to her and she turned towards me.
"Come on (Y/n)! You said you would come with me this year."
She pouted and I sighed. She was right and I did say I would go with her this year. I just didn't know she was going to bring her boyfriend and I would basically be a third wheel. I shoved my hands in my winter jacket and pulled my beanie closer to my head. All the sudden everyone started cheering and I looked around, seeing the building with the ball sit on top of it light up. I sighed and pulled my jacket closer to my body and listened to everyone yell out the countdown. I glanced over at my friend and her boyfriend, who were clinging to each other and watching the building. I rolled my eyes and then everyone started cheering. (Y/f/n) and her boyfriend started messing with each other and I turned in disgust. I don't know why I agreed to come, to watch everyone just make out with each other in the middle of the streets.
"(Y/n)?!"
I heard a voice yell from behind me. I glanced back to see my old high school boyfriend.
"Beck?!"
I said with my mouth wide open. We grew up together in California but I moved out of state to go to college so I decided I didn't want to put us through a long-distance relationship. He smiled brightly at me and walked up.
"I didn't know you were in New York?!"
I exclaimed and hugged him tightly. He quickly wrapped his arms around me.
"I got a job here with Stark Industries."
He looked down at me. I smiled.
"That's amazing!"
We lost contact with each other a few months after I moved away. We just got distance and stopped talking. Yes, I still thought about him all the time. I loved him with all my heart and I never wanted to break up with him but I couldn't make myself go through the pain of my trust issues and things especially when we're literally across the country from each other.
"We should go out to lunch or something soon and catch up."
"I'd love that."
I giggled and the cheering of people cut my thoughts off. I turned my head to see the ball drop down to the bottom of the pole. People cheering and starting to kiss each other. I turned my head back towards Beck who was smiling and looking at everything. He looked back at me and held my chin. My heart raced, I felt like I was in highschool again. He smiled and leaned down, connecting his lips with mine. My heart pounded and I eagerly kissed back. Beck pulled me closer towards his chest and I placed my hands on his shoulders. He pulled away from me and I giggled.
"A good way to start off the new year?"
He asked and I giggled and nodded.
"Definitely."
