The Story of Us (JG)

Chapter 5

My phone buzzes. Immediately my heart races hoping its Kat.

Hey man I'm in town you wanna hang?

It just Nash. I'm a little disappointed but at the same time I'm excited. I haven't seen Nash since our tour ended a couple weeks ago. And I kinda miss the guy. I'd never admit it though.

Sure. I'll call Jack and it'll be a real party

Alright see you in an hour or so.

I should probably get dressed. It's already noon and I'm still in bed. I smell myself. Crap I stink. I hop in the shower and rinse off. I pull on a pair of basketball shorts and walk downstairs to eat breakfast, well I guess its lunchtime, Brunch? Anyways I enter the kitchen and grab some cereal.

My house is kinda lonely, my parents work and all my siblings have moved out. I already graduated so I have the freedom to do whatever want. I turn on the tv so I don't feel quite so alone then text Jack.

You wanna come hang out with me and Nash in like half an hour?

Sure

I check twitter to see if there's anything interesting. My feed is blowing up full of things like "@jackgilinsky who is that girl?!" and the pictures of me and Kat from Adventureland. We've gone viral... I see a few tweets from some of the MAGCON guys curious about how I got such a hot girl to go out with me and laugh to myself.

Am I ready to explain? What is going on with me and Kat? I mean we aren't dating or in a relationship... well we aren't official, at least not yet.

I decide to text Kat.

Hey have you been on twitter lately?

I set my phone down waiting for her to reply and change the channel. I'm trying to find something interesting to watch when Nash and Jack walk in.

"Oh my gosh! Nash Grier! I love youuu!" I yell in my best teenage girl voice running over and giving him a mock hug.

"Ew get off!" Nash says back, "Girls have cooties" we laugh and sit down on my couch. My phone buzzes and Nash lunges for it.

"Oooooh who's Kat?" he asks with a wink.

"His girlfriend" Jack says making a kissy face.

"No!" I say blushing.

"He wishes she was" Jack says.

"Shut up!" I say reaching for my phone but Nash holds it just out of reach. "Really?" I say. "What are you eight?"

"Maybe" Nash says in a childish tone before tossing the phone to Jack who reads the message out loud.

"Yeah our faces are everywhere" he reads in a high pitched girl voice. He tosses it back to Nash who catches it and says "What should we reply?"

"We aren't going to say anything" I say emphasizing the we and snatching my phone out of his hand.

"Awe c'mon" Nash fake pouts. "I wanna meet this girl and any hot friends she happens to have"

"Oh my gosh shut up" I reply.

"I wasn't even kidding! Invite her and her friends over and we can watch a movie or something" Nash says.

"Are you sure?" I say raising an eyebrow at him.

"Positive" Nash says.

"Tell her to bring Brinley" Jack agrees.

I sigh. There's no way I'm winning this argument so I invite her over and she agrees saying she'll be here in about an hour with Brinley and someone named El.

I hear a knock and walk to open the door. Nash beats me there and says "You must be the hot girl Jack keeps telling me about" Kat laughs making my heart pound. "Shut up!" I say pushing him out of the way and letting them in.

After they walk in Nash whispers to me "Man her friend is hot!" gesturing to the one that must be El. She's a few inches taller than Kat and her skin is about the same color tan. She has wavy brown hair a little past her shoulders and smallish light brown eyes that look really cool. She's pretty in a sort of exotic way I guess.

I walk into the family room where Jack is asking what movie we wanna watch. We settle on the Purge and within the first half hour Brinley had screamed about ten times and was now hiding under a blanket curled up next to Jack. El isn't doing much better and somehow ended up sitting on Nash's lap clutching his shirt and burying her face in his chest.

Kat is simply sitting next to me fascinated by the movie. Man this girl was different. I'm not even sure if she's blinked since it started. She jumped a few times at the pop ups but recovered quickly, resuming her trancelike stare. Finally I'm tired of sitting by myself and pull her into my side.

"How are you not scared of this?" I whisper into her ear.

"I dunno" she replies shrugging. "It's just unrealistic but like really interesting,"

"Well I am so your gonna have to cuddle with me" I say. She giggles and wraps her arms around my waist tucking her legs behind her. I put my arm on her back and kiss her forehead. She lays her head on my chest and sighs contentedly. We stay like that until the movie ends.

After the movies over we decide to get some dinner. We order a pizza and talk for awhile.

"Brinley and Jack really hit it off!" I whisper into Kats ear as they have a contest to see who can do more push-ups. She laughs and nods in agreement. "So did Nash and El" she replies winking and nodding towards El and Nash who were standing in a corner making out. Nash's arms were around El's waist and her hands were tangled in his hair

"Well that escalated quickly!" I say laughing.

"That could be us but you playin" she said laughing. I know it was supposed to be a joke but I wish it wasn't. I really wish we were dating but I'm scared to ask her to be my girlfriend. I'm scared that she will reject me.

I laugh but it's a little forced. She gives me a questioning look and i just shrug it off. We hang out a little longer before they have to go. I give Kat a hug and walk her to her car. Once she drives away I walk back inside. Jack and Nash are comparing dates.

"You guys are such girls" I say rolling my eyes at them. Jack is talking about how many push-ups Brinley can do and Nash can't shut up about what a good kisser El is. Soon they both look at me.

"So when are you gonna ask Kat out?" Jack asks.

"I dunno" I say looking down and fidgeting with my hands.

"You're scared huh!" Nash says.

"Well I don't see you asking El out" I reply.

"Touché" he says. "But you've known Kat longer and clearly your into each other. Just ask her already!"

"I will! I just want it to be... special" I reply embarrassed at such a girly answer. They both calm down and stop making fun of me. Eventually they have to leave and I get ready for bed.

I hop in bed and all I can think about is Kat and how I can ask her out. Finally I drift off to sleep still thinking about her.
