Niall's POV

I couldn't believe my eyes.

A baby, a newborn baby just lay on my doorstep in the dead of night. The tiny thing was bundled up in a little blue blanket.

Pick them up Horan, I scream in my head, just as the baby stirs in its sleep. So with careful hands, I reach into the box, putting one hand under the babies head, one along his torso, and lift him out of the  box.

I don't know much about babies, except that I'm already marveling at this tiny guy in my arms. Call it a little creepy, but I did check the hardware, downstairs, just to make sure this 'Jack' is a boy.

Yep, it's a boy.

Jack, then started to whine a little as I stood up. "It's okay, we're alright." The baby smiled briefly before settling against the blanket.

"Come on in. Must be freezing out there." I whisper while I take the note from the box, for further inspection.

"Niall?" I hear Liam as he walks out of the living room, but stops in his tracks, when he sees the bundle in my arms. Well, the name does read 'Jack', so I guess I'll call him just that.

Please keep my babies name...

My heart clenched when I found the writing on the back, so I began wondering what happened to the mother. By now I expected Liam to maybe panic and look outside for the person who left Jack on our doorstep, but no. Instead, he came closer, a smile grew on his face as he came into view of the little human being in my arms.

"Hey, hi there, little guy, what's you name?" Liam spoke softly, while Jack started to squirm in my arms. While Liam and I looked down at Jack, I noticed how he had a lot of chestnut colored hair that matched Liam's.

But then, I witnessed a miracle when Jack opened his eyes briefly to show the world his amazing blue eyes. His tiny mouth curved into a smiled, when he saw us.

"Oh my..." I breathed when I saw them, because I think those big blue eyes had just stole my heart.

"Niall, what do you think we should do, should we keep him or..." Liam looked a bit scared of my answer, but his face lite up when I quickly denied what I know he was referring too.

"No!" I say a little louder than needed. "I want to keep him."

I peer down to the child in my arms, and bring a hand to slide over his soft head.

"Thank, God." Liam mumbled, but I heard it. It was then that he and I shared a gaze. A gaze that said so many things about us in that moment, even if neither of us said a word. And for a long time, we stood like that, until I broke the silence.

"We should go out and buy some things for him," I turn away, knowing enough that a little blanket won't do for Jack.

"We should also stop by a social office while we're at it." The look on Liam's face said that he was dead serious and his eyes told that he was in full protection mode.

"Right, let's get going," but we stopped when we both started for the front door, "wait, would you want me to drive?" Liam asks.

"Yeah." I reply quickly, not wanting to stop holding Jack, just quite yet.

A few minutes later, Liam and I stood in the baby aisle of a superstore and looked over all the tiny clothes I had jewels in my eyes for. Some had cute messages on them while others were just colored with designs. We both agreed to kitten-ize Jack's wardrobe. Kitten this, kitty-cat that, we bought all things needed; so long as they had any form of felines on it. An old lady on her way then walked by and couldn't help but marvel at Jack in my arms.
