(Days later)

"C'mon Jaune, you can do it!"

You cheered for your best friend who was currently battling against Cardin Winchester in Glynda's class.

Ruby: Yeah, go Jaune!

Jaune charges at Cardin, only to be shoved aside to the ground.

Y/N: Argh, keep going Jaune! You're so close!

Weiss lets out a sigh and turns to you both.

Weiss: Okay, at this point, you guys are just giving him false hope. We all know what the outcome of this battle will be.

Y/N: Well... You'll never know until it truly ends. I believe in him.

Weiss: Hmph. Cling onto that hope then, see how long that'll last.

In Glynda's class, you were all learning the basics of fighting. Glynda would normally assign students to fight against each other to show and demonstrate basic fighting. This class was the class that you'd particularly needed to pay full attention to since you're still technically new to fighting.

Focusing back on the fight, you slowly realize that Weiss's statement was becoming true. Jaune was getting utterly and completely destroyed by his opponent. Whenever Jaune made a move, Cardin would counter with a parry or a side-step. Jaune was no match, and Cardin knows this.

After dodging another lunge, Cardin lets out a snicker due to how easy it was for him. Getting annoyed, Jaune prepares to lunge at him again, but you noticed that his shield was too low to block Cardin's parry.

Swinging at Cardin, the boy easily sidesteps to his left. Cardin then swings at Jaune with his mace and a loud boom echo through the class. As Jaune was sent flying, he lost his grip on his shield.

Y/N: Oh no! Jaune!

Getting back up, Jaune performs an axe-hammer swing with his sword, but it was yet again blocked by Cardin. These two then get into a clash, a battle of strength. However, Cardin manages to overpower Jaune, and as the blonde struggles to shrug off the clash, Cardin knees Jaune in the stomach, causing Jaune to cough and keel over.

Jaune falls like a stone and looks up towards his towering foe. With a cocky smile, Cardin prepares to finish Jaune off. But before Cardin could end Jaune, the buzzer sounds, signaling the end of the match.

Glynda: Cardin, that's enough.

The lights flick back on, applause roaring from Cardin's team.

Glynda: Students, as you can see, Mr. Arc's aura has now dropped into the red. In a tournament-style duel, This would indicate that Jaune is no longer fit for battle, and that the official may call the match.

Glynda then directs her attention back to Jaune.

Glynda: Mr. Arc, it's been weeks now. Please try to refer to your scroll during combat. Gauging your aura will help you to decide when it is appropriate to attack, or when it is better to move to a more... defensive strategy. We wouldn't want you to be gobbled up by a Beowolf, now would we?

Cardin: Hmph, speak for yourself.

Glynda then directs her attention back to the students.

Glynda: Remember everyone! The Vytal Festival is only a few months away, it won't be long before students from the other kingdoms, start arriving in Vale, so keep practicing!
