"Gonzalez kick the damn ball! Patterson is open! Kick it! Run it!" I could hear our coach yelling at us as the clock counted down. We were tied with Turner Falls 2-2 with ten seconds left on the clock. Gonzalez reluctantly kicked the ball my way and I kicked it weaving through two of the other teams players who were easily twice my size I pulled my right foot back and kicked it as hard as I could and watched as it soared through the air grazing against the goalies fingers before swishing in the net causing us to win 3-2.
The clock buzzed and the crowd went wild. The guys chanted our schools song as they poured a cooler of Gatorade on my head causing me to scream bloody murder because it was freezing cold. The icy liquid slid down my body until I was soaked head to toe.
I looked around to catch the culprits and seen Shawn and Ryan dump a cooler over Sergio's head too and he bolted after them with a glint of humor dancing in his green eyes.
I couldn't help but smile watching them run about yelling profanities at one another. He and I may not get along but the other guys treat him like part of the family.
"Caleb not enough for you? You've got your eyes on another man?" I whirled around to face none other Heidi and her minions Regina and Sidney.
"Fuck off Heidi." I rolled my eyes at her, she smirked knowing she's getting under my skin which is apparently the only thing on her agenda these days.
"Keep your eyes off of Sergio, he's mine."
"I don't want him!" I gasped in shock. Is she delusional? Me and this guy can't stand one another and I have a boyfriend.
"Good. Not that he'd ever go for you, because you are plain Jane. He likes a real woman." She tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder. Her minions crossed their arms across their chests like robots. How are their ears not bleeding from hearing her talk all the time? Only seconds around her and I am ready to climb up walls to avoid her at any costs.
"Hey babygirl! Great game! You scored the winning point." Caleb gave me a high five drapping his arm around my shoulder.
"Ignore her, she's not worth it. Let's go." I huffed and followed my boyfriend to the locker room. He waited outside while I took a quick shower cleaning all the sticky fluids off of my body and out of my hair. I quickly got dressed into some blue jeans and a solid black V-neck and my converse. Heidi's words ring in my head. You're plain Jane. Even after a win I feel defeated.
"Here let me get that for you. We still going to The Milky Way?" The Milky Way is an old diner in downtown. They have the best milkshakes and burgers in town maybe even the state. We go after every game whether we win or lose, it's a tradition.
"Yes! I'm starving." Right on cue my stomach let out a rattling growl. All that running left me feeling empty and needing a greasy burger.
"Yo Patterson that was some kick girl!" Shawn grabbed my sides tickling them.
"Oh my God stop! You know. I am ticklish!" I squealed jumping around trying to escape his torturous finger tips. I lunged into the booth away from Shawn before he could grab me again.
We took our seat at our usual round table shoving into it like sardines.
Caleb sat beside me with an arm around me.
"Hey guys look who tried to skip out on team dinner!" Ryan shoved Sergio towards the table. He slid into the booth across from Caleb and I. His eyes met mine instantly.
"Hey Lex." He smiled brightly at me. I felt a scowl spread on my face.
"Sergio." I nodded once before digging into the fries our waitress Leila brought out. She is our waitress every week and just brings out tons of appetizers because lets face it we eat like wild animals. She pulled out her pad and started taking everyone's orders.
