"Are you sure you're okay? You need stitches!" Reagan plopped down beside me at lunch examining my wound which was covered with this stupid clip."Yes I am fine. Now eat your lunch." Reagan sat a can of Starbucks coffee and a pack of sour punch straws in front of me, my favorites. I really wasn't hungry. After all the events from last night and today I have zero appetite until I set eyes on the sour straws. I opened them up and picked one up and started to eat it.
"Lex please talk to me." Sergio took his usual seat next to me and whispered so low that only I could hear him. I could smell his minty breath and smell his woodsy cologne it was an intoxicating combination to say the least. He wants to talk? If we talk right here I am going to cry and I really don't need that especially not in front of our team.
"We have nothing to talk about Sergio. Everything is fine." I shrugged and went back to eating my candy and drinking my coffee. My morning classes dragged by simply because I knew that from lunch on I would have to be around Sergio. He is in all my afternoon classes and then we have practice after that so I couldn't escape him.
The rest of lunch went by smoothly well as smooth as it could. Reagan kept eyeing my forehead with sadness in her eyes before I threatened to hit her if she stared at it again. I even agreed to let her have a slumber party with me tonight to cheer her up.
My afternoon classes went by slower than I cared for. Sergio sat behind me in every single one begging me to talk to him but I ignored him. The final bell for the day signaled and students bolted out of the building as if their asses were on fire.
'Just get through practice Alex then go home and eat junk food.' I gave myself a little pep talk as I walked into the facility but I wasn't looking forward to our slumber party either because I know Reagan is going to want to know everything and I don't really want to talk about it.
I quickly changed into gym shorts and a tee shirt before putting on my running shoes. For the first time in history of practicing I was glad today is a running day that way I don't have to talk to anyone. I slowly made my way to the gym before Shawn pushed himself off the wall falling in stride with me.
"You okay?" Shawn asked genuinely concerned, his green eyes filled with worry. Does he know? Reagan does and part of the team does but I don't know if anyone has told Shawn. I know I should but I can't right now.
"I know about Sergio." I felt relief coarse through my veins that I don't have to say it out loud.
"Reagan told me and so did Cooper and Owen." I nodded. It was bound to get out at some point.
"I am fine Shawn." I offered him a small smile before we joined the rest of the team in the gym.
"Listen up team today we are working on speed. The key to speed is also about pacing yourself so you don't tire out in the beginning. Today we are running twelve miles. Let's get out there and let me see you use and preserve your strength." Coach clapped his hands ushering us outside. We all walked out to the track before Coach blew his whistle signalling us to start running. It's all about pacing yourself and not using all of your endurance right off the bat. I started off in a slow jog rolling my eyes at my idiot team who a lot of started full on sprinting. They are going to tire out and get spasms that way but right now I don't care. I feel Sergio running a few steps away from me and Shawn on the other side of me.
"Are you going to ignore me forever?" Sergio asked not once breaking stride with me.
"That's my plan Gonzalez." I huffed and focused on the track the last thing I need is to fall and bust my ass out here I already have enough battle wounds for one day.
