Present Day

After sneaking their way through the city, Gally, Thomas and Newt managed to make it to the wall. They had to jump across a broken freeway onto a platform that led to the wall. But the area was pretty deserted, so at least sneaking in was fairly easy. Gally led them up a set of stairs onto a balcony. From up there, they had a pretty good view of the rest of the city, and a clear shot at the tall building in the center. The one that was lit up and had the WCKD logo clearly displayed on the side facing them.

"There it is," Gally said while he took out a telescope that he had stashed there ahead of time. "If WCKD's got Minho and Claire, that's where they'll be keeping them. Lawrence has been trying to find a way in for years. Place is crawling with soldiers, surveillance everywhere, scanners at every entrance."

"Sounds like a bloody fortress."

"I thought you said you had a way in," Thomas said to Gally.

"I might."

"What do you mean you might?" Thomas said, his tone growing more angry and frantic. "Gally, you said you could get us in there. We're following your lead here, we trusted you. We didn't have to do that."

"Okay, let's get a few things straight first," Gally interjected. "Otherwise, there's no point in going any further. Look, I know what I did, I may not remember, but I know. I see Chuck's face every time I close my eyes. Listen, we don't have to be friends, and I'm not asking for anybody's forgiveness. I'm asking that we put it behind us because we both want the same thing. And after this, we go our separate ways. Until then, none of this works unless we trust each other."

Thomas felt taken aback by Gally's words. What he said about trust strongly reminded Thomas of what Alby said to him during his first day in the Glade.

"Okay," Thomas finally agreed. "What's your plan?"

"Take a look," Gally replied, backing away from the telescope he set up.

Through the lens of the telescope, Thomas was able to see through the windows and into the rooms. There were scientist hard at work, jotting down notes and sipping mugs of coffee. Standing in one of the windows, writing on a pad of paper, was Teresa.

Thomas felt his heart stop for a minute. For months, he had been dead set on rescuing Claire and Minho, hadn't allowed himself to think of anything else. He had worked hard to suppress his memories of Teresa, told himself she was no longer his friend, that whatever their relationship was before didn't matter anymore.

All that effort crumbled in a matter of seconds.

"I said I had a way in," Gally said. "I didn't say you were gonna like it."

While everyone else was standing around the table drawing up the plan, Thomas paced the room , still desperately trying to think of an alternative solution.

"There's gotta be another way."

"Like what?" Gally replied. "You've seen the building, she is our only way in."

"You really think she's gonna help us?"

"Well I don't plan on asking for her permission."

"Am I missing something here?" Brenda cut in. "This is the same girl who betrayed us correct? Same dick?"

"I like her," Gally said.

Brenda ignored the comment. "Seriously, Thomas, what's going on?"

Thomas didn't trust himself to answer her question. He didn't fully understand what he was thinking or feeling. As badly as he wanted to save Minho and Claire, he didn't want Teresa to be involved. In fact, he didn't want to see her at all.
