Present Day

As soon as the boys heard gunshots being fired right outside their cell door, they ducked for cover. Most covered their ears, trying to block out the noise and people crying out in pain.

Soon all the commotion died down. Sam, one of the older boys, slowly made his way over to the small window in the door to see what was going on. As soon as he did, a WCKD guard appeared on the other side of the window. Sam backed up toward his bunk as the door opened. The guard took off his helmet to reveal, not a middle aged, gruff looking guard like most of the ones here, but a young blonde boy, no more than eighteen or nineteen-years-old.

"Come on, let's go," he said.

Sam was hesitant, he didn't know who this boy was. For all he knew, this was another cruel test set up by WCKD. Sam looked back at the other boys in the room, almost all of them were younger than him, one was barely eleven-years-old. WCKD had put them all through so much, they had to take this chance.

Thomas told Newt to check the other cells while he was coaxing a group of girls to come out of their cell. One of them, a blonde girl named Jane, saw her friend Sam come out of his cell and felt sure that this was the right move. The other girls followed her lead.

Teresa watched from behind the control desk while Gally worked his way into the vault to get to the serum. Thomas and Newt continued to free the other Immunes.

Minho and Claire were no where to be seen.

Thomas checked every cell again, looked in every corner. But once again, the two friends he came to find were nowhere in sight. He stormed over to Teresa.

"Where are they?"

Seven Months Ago

Everything was set. It had taken months, but with Aris and Rachel's help, Thomas was able to get the information to Mary and the Right Arm.

Thomas wondered if he was supposed to feel a little guilty. Ava Paige and the other WCKD doctors had taken care of him since he was five-years-old. Since both his parents had caught the Flare and had no choice but to give him away. He was now completely betraying WCKD.

But honestly, the only guilt he felt was not doing anything sooner. Too many kids had already died. George, Nick, Miyoko, and now Roger, who had been killed by a Griever last week. He had been Sonya's running partner, so she was taking his loss the hardest.

No more.

Thomas wasn't stupid. WCKD had probably already figured out what he had done. He had known from the beginning that he would eventually get found out. He, Aris and Rachel had prepared for this and were ready for whatever came next.

Thomas knew they were coming for him. He just had to see Teresa one more time. Despite being one of his best friends, and the only one left after Chuck was sent in the Maze, Thomas never told her about his plans. He didn't want to endanger her. Also, he didn't think she'd understand.

"Hey," Teresa once she saw Thomas enter the room.

"Did anyone see you come in here?" he asked urgently.

"No, what are you talking about?"

"We don't have a lot of time."

"Tom, what's wrong?"

"I-I had to see you. I had to try and explain things before-"

Suddenly they heard footsteps. Thomas felt his heart stop for just a moment. They had already found him. He grabbed Teresa by the shoulders and led her around a corner, further away from the approaching footsteps.

"Thomas!" she gasped.

"Listen to me, whatever they tell you about me, whatever they say, I just need you to know...I had to do it."

"What did you do?"

"I just...I couldn't keep watching them die."

Suddenly Janson came around the corner. "Over here."

Two more guards appeared and started to take Thomas away.

"I'm sorry," he said to Teresa as he was dragged out of sight.

"Thomas!" she called after him.
