"I thought we swore off Friday night drinking," Jess says when she comes home to see a table filled with food and me busy making what I hope turns out to be something that tastes nice.
"Well it's a special Friday so I think we can make an exception," I tell her.
"What is so special about this particular Friday?" she asks, raising an eyebrow.
"What's the date?" I ask in return.
"No way! You did not go out and- we're 26 we don't. Actually screw it. I've missed Friday the 13th horror movie nights," she eventually settles for saying.
"Are you ready for Jason?"
"Are you ready for Freddie?"
Jess laughs before retreating to her room and changing out of her work clothes and into her comfy pj's. I move all the food to the coffee table in the lounge before grabbing as many pillows and blankets and I can find and throwing them on the couch.
Jess returns a few minutes later in what is probably her oldest pair of pajamas. "I can't believe you actually went out and got the movies," she says.
"Well of course I did. We may have forgotten about it for a while but this was one of my favorite traditions."
"When did it even start?" she wants to know.
"It during middle school when we thought we were old enough to watch horror movies," I explain.
"Oh yes! I remember now. I couldn't sleep for a week afterwards. I had nightmares for an entire month so thanks for that."
"It was your idea. Whenever we got into trouble it would be your idea Jessica. I always used to be the innocent little follower."
"Of course. What about all the times you and Josh got into trouble? I had nothing to do with any of that," she tells me in a huff.
"Oh come on Jess, let's just start watching our movies."
"Fine what first?" she asks and I just grin at her.
"Your personal favorite Jessica," I tell her with an evil grin.
"It's not even Halloween. Why do we need to watch this?" she complains.
"You'd think that after watching this so many times Michael Myers wouldn't scare you."
"Well he does," she says with a pout.
"I'm really gonna miss living together when you're married Jess," I tell her.
"Me too Hailey. But don't worry, we'll be seeing a lot of each other."
"I know Jess, but it won't be the same," I whine.
"I have a plan."
"You do?"
"Yes I do. So when Ashton and I get married we'll have a child right, a son to be exact. Then when you get married to Jo- uhm...the man you marry you two will have a daughter and then they'll fall in love and get married the end," she tells me and I burst out laughing.
"I love you Jessica," I tell her in between the laughter.
"Love you too Hails," she says.
We're just about to start watching the movie when Jess's phone rings.
"2 guesses as to who that is," I mutter.
"Hi honey. Oh uhm...well this is awkward. Okay...just a moment. It's for you," she says handing me her phone and I furrow my eyebrows.
