Scarlet Ghost

XXV

Liz, Courtney, and Michelle make their way back to the alleyway where they found the secret entrance to the hidden lab.

"Alright so we just go in the way we did before." Courtney says.

"If we do that we'll all get killed instantly." Liz then pulls out her phone "The blue prints say that we can find a way in through the access vents on the roof."

"Ok so let's get climbing then." Courtney pushes Michelle down and uses her as a stepping stool to grab onto the window sill above them.

Michelle isn't happy at all but she continues to climb up after Courtney.

About half way up the building Courtney slips and loses her grip and falls. She is only saved because she clings onto Michelle's back as she fell. Michelle almost loses her grip and shoots Courtney an angry look but keeps climbing.

Finally they make it up to the roof. Liz is already at the top tampering with the vent cover she turns and looks as Michelle struggles over the lip of the roof with Courtney riding on her back.

"Why didn't you two just fly up here?" Liz asks.

Michelle shoots Courtney a look that if it could have killed her it would have.

Liz pinches the bridge of her nose and sighs "We don't have time for any fights we gotta get this done before we miss our window."

Michelle walks over to the vent cover and yanks it off. "I'll just go in here first." She pauses and shoots Courtney another dirty look "This is why I have trust issues." Michelle grumbles as she crawls into the vent.

There are more twists and turns in the vents than they thought. They have already gotten lost a few times and they weren't even sure if they were even going to get to the main part of the warehouse. But finally after wandering around in the vents for a while, the vent shaft opens up and they see some light coming through a vent just ahead of them set in the floor.

Michelle, Courtney, and Liz gather around it to see what's below. Underneath them they hear voices and then a group of PHRPA agents dressed in clothes like street thugs would wear walk under the vent.

"Well great, now how are we going to have the element of surprise on Alpha?" Liz pauses "We need some kind of distraction..."

Simultaneously Michelle and Liz turn and look at Courtney. Then without warning, Michelle grabs Courtney and pushes her through the air vent.

"Good luck!" Michelle says quickly.

Courtney doesn't even have time to respond. She falls through the air and lands awkwardly breaking a couple of bones in her feet in the process.

The loud thud of Courtney's landing alerts every PHRPA thug in the warehouse and they all start to circle around her. "Well look at what we have here boys!"

"Frick!" Courtney curses.

Liz and Michelle don't have time to watch the situation play out. They continue moving through the air vent towards Alpha's office. Not very long after they're right above Alpha's office. They drop down through the vent into the office, Michelle changing into her armor as she falls.

Alpha is completely taken by surprise. He barely has time to register what has happened before Liz throws a punch at him. Her punch knocks him off balance, but he recovers quickly and aims a punch towards Michelle. Michelle starts to react but then suddenly she vanished into thin air.

Alpha stops mid punch and looks around confused. A few seconds later Michelle seems to melt out of Alpha's shadow and she picks up the fire extinguisher off of the wall and hits Alpha in the back of his head. Alpha crumples to the floor.

Liz bends down to check his pulse "Yep he's still breathing, just unconscious." She looks at me "Looks like you learned a new trick."

"Apparently so." Michelle replies slowly. "Oh we almost forgot about Courtney!" She suddenly exclaims.

Liz produces some rope out of her small backpack she'd been carrying and begins to tie up Alpha. "Go ahead. Meet me back in here when you're done."

Michelle opens the door to Alpha's office and is greeted with a gruesome sight. The thugs have tied Courtney's feet up with a chain and she is hanging upside down. The thugs are beating her with bats like she's a piñata.

Michelle uses her new shadow warping power to take out all the thugs before they barely even knew what hit them. Then she flies up to Courtney and cuts her down with a hand saw she found on a tool bench.

Courtney is beat up. Her nose is bleeding and there are dark bruises on her arms and face. Her ankles are bleeding a little from where the chains cut into them.

Michelle deactivated her armor and goes over to Courtney. "Are you ok? Why didn't you transform into your armor?" Michelle asks.

"Because when you pushed me out of the vent I landed funny and my watch got crushed or something so it malfunctioned." Courtney snaps.

Michelle avoids Courtney's angry stare "Umm so Liz wanted us in there to interrogate Alpha."

Courtney struggles to her feet and starts limping towards the office trailing a few drops of dark blood as she goes. "Oh Courtney be the distraction, you won't get hurt it'll be easy, I hate both of you." She angrily mumbles.

Michelle can't help but laugh a little as she follows Courtney back to the office.

When they both get in there they see Liz has just finished tying Alpha to his office chair. She
cracks her knuckles "Great you two are back...mostly in one piece. It's time to question the big dog and see what he knows. You guys ready?"

Howdy!

Once again sorry it's taken me so long to post another chapter. My phone, which is what I write my stories off of, was messing up and I had to go and get another one. But it's working now so you can expect a few more chapters in the future.
