5. I Got Hungry

After everyone went over to Eichen house to visit Valack, they decided to go to Scott's house to read the Dread Doctors book the next day. Liam and I went back to the club, not to party but to pay Hayden back. And since I felt bad, I decided to tag along and pay her back as well. Even though it wasn't my fault that I bumped into her and made her drop the drinks.

We went inside and we started to look for Hayden, once we did Liam went up to her while I just stood close by. "Forty-three dollars," Liam said holding up the money in his hand, "I said I don't want your money," Hayden said. "You said I owe you 200," Liam told her, "Liam, just forget it... I don't need-" the power then goes out. "Perfect," Hayden says and walks away probably to turn the power back on, Liam follows right behind her and I only followed halfway.

What I did get to see, was Liam helping Hayden pull the lever. "You want to keep hating me? Go for it. You said I owe you 200. So, here's 43 more." I heard Liam tell her, then I see him walk out. "Does she still hate you?" I ask Liam as I walk along side him, he shrugs. "Yeah, I guess so. But, she took the money so..." Liam says, "That's progress," I shrug.

The next day at school, Liam was out practicing on the field. And conveniently enough, so was Hayden. And I was sitting on the benches with Brett and Mason, "I don't know, dude. Everyone at Devenford's pretty abnormal to me," Brett told Mason. "All right. What else is there to look for?" Mason asks, "There's heightened strength, smell, hearing, speed..." Mason listed off.

"Uh, able to see in the dark," Brett added, "Glowing eyes," I said. "Eyes that reflect the light," Brett said, "Visible scorpion stingers protruding out of limbs?" Mason suggests, "Yeah or three foot lizard tails," Brett chuckles. Then we see Liam and Hayden having a competition of 'who can score the most goals?', and when Liam threw one of the balls it made the goalie stumble and fall on his back. "Sorry!" Liam apologized and helped the boy stand up, "What's up with those two?" Brett asked.

"Six grade. That's not the best year for Liam and Lin's anger management issues," Mason said, "Hey! At least I didn't do what Liam did!" I said defending myself. Mason just laughs and takes out his phone, "There was a... this fight out in the hallways. Liam and this other guy. Hayden sort of accidentally walked into it. And this is her yearbook photo," Mason explained as he looked up a picture of Hayden with two black eyes and a broken nose.

"Ah, damn," Brett winced, "What did she do to him?" Brett asked. Mason swiped to the next picture of Liam with the same exact injuries as Hayden, "Still remember it like it was just yesterday," I chuckle.

Then a guy was running out in the field, "Does anyone have asthma? Anyone got an inhaler?" the boy yelled. I stood up, "Scott!" I said as I run down the field with Liam. Once we found an inhaler we ran over to where Scott was, "We've got it! We got the inhaler!" Liam said as we ran into the classroom. We kneeled in front of Scott as Liam put the inhaler in Scott's hand, Scott was wheezing and gasping for air.

"Scott?" I call out, "Scott, come on," Liam tells him. Liam and I look at each other and nod, we glow our eyes at Scott. "Scott!" we say in unison as we glow our eyes at him, then Scott takes the inhaler and shakes it. Then he takes a hit from it, finally being able to breathe. "Thanks" he tells us, I don't know what came over me but I hugged him tightly. Scott hugged me back, "I was scared shitless!" I say.
