chapter twenty nine
old rooms and new proceduresRay was brought to Steve's old bedroom after they finished in the lab. Her father had helped her get there and into the bed, and then he allowed her time to rest on her own.
She enjoyed the soft bed and the smell of the room. It reminded her of her friend. She loved the soft sheets on her skin and the pillows that were soft too.
The room was decorated in a very Steve fashion. There wasn't a thing hanging on the gray walls with the exception of a television and a clock. The furniture was all black and there was a bookshelf full of books. A desk that had various notebooks on it - no doubt filled with drawings.
In the corner of the room was his old shield, one that Ray had not seen in a year.
On the nightstand next to her was a lamp and a picture of him and Bucky, from decades ago.
Ray immediately smiled when she saw the picture and picked it up in her frail hand. The picture was old, it dated back to the forties. It had been grayed by the age and yellowed in color. But Ray could still see the beautiful eyes that she loved so much, and a smile that didn't hold anything back.
She wished that she could have known the Bucky from back them. Though she knew very well that he wouldn't have looked twice at her, she would have loved to see how happy he was. How happy he used to be.
The only reason he had even looked at her was because they were so much alike. Their lives were very similar and that helped tied them together in ways that brought them together.
Sleeping that night was harder then she thought; and not because she had just slept for nearly two days. It was hard for her to sleep because she knew she would die tomorrow. And that scared her. She had no way of knowing what the formula would do to her and if it would even help her. Though she trusted her father, and had been begun to trust Stark, it still made her nervous. She had no idea what tomorrow would bring.

Ray laid on a table.
Sinthea was next to her.
Both Bruce and Stark were running through various scientific things that as much as Ray tried to follow, she couldn't, so instead she laid back and focused on counting each breath. It reminded her of Bucky and that was what she needed now.
"Ray." Sinthea's voice was very quiet.
"Yes?"
