You made your way back inside to the living room.  You sat on the grey couch, unsure of that to do next.  Might as well check on your roommate, Shea. You brought your phone out and called her number.  It went straight to voicemail. But, a text from her immediately followed.

Shea:  Can’t talk.  On vocal rest.  Audition tonight.

You rolled your eyes at her.  Of course she was on vocal rest.  But you knew the audition wasn’t tonight.  You were auditioning for the same show. The audition was tomorrow at 12:00 pm.  She probably just didn’t want to talk to you. Oh well. You decided to call Jake instead.

    “Hello?”

“Hey,” you answered, “Just wanted to let you know that I made it to the house safely.”

“Great,” he uttered, “Glad you’re not dead.”

You snorted at his slightly morbid comment.  “Uh, thanks?”

“You’re welcome.  Is the house weird?”

“I wouldn’t say weird, just…”  you looked around at the random sculptures that were littered about the living room, “Okay it is pretty weird.”

    “I figured.”

“Ooh, biiitch, you know what’s weirder??”

    “Huh?”

“They live in the same house my old babysitters lived in!  And died in!”

“Woah,” he said, “That’s pretty creepy.  You sure you’re gonna be okay by yourself?”

“Uh, yeah… Yeah, I-I think that I’ll be okay…” you said, not sounding very confident.

    “(Y/n)...”

“Yeah, no, I’m a little scared.” you admitted.

“Haha, you’re a chicken!” Jake joked.

    “And you’re a dick!”

    “You are what you eat~.”

“Oh my God, you NASTY ho!!”

“And don’t you forget it.  Speaking of which, I have a date tonight.  I gotta go get ready. Wish me luck!”

    “Be safe!”

And with that, he hung up.

“Now what?” You asked yourself.  You crane your neck to look at the staircase behind you.  “Check out the attic?”

You looked at the wooden floor.  Dust was very visible. You supposed the attic could wait.  You went to the kitchen and grabbed a broom. Coming back to the living room, you pulled out your phone, searching for some sweet musical jams.  You decided on Waitress. You quietly sang along to ‘Opening Up’. You gently swept the floor, bopping along to the music. This didn’t seem so hard.  If simple stuff like this was all you had to worry about, then this month was sure to be a piece of cake!

~Meanwhile~

Barbara and Adam had continued looking through the old cardboard box.  It was filled with pictures, old drawings, and programs from (Y/n) and her parents.  Adam and Barbara were looking through an old scrapbook of toddler pictures. Barbara turned to the next page to see a giant rip in it.

“Oh no…” Barbara said in disappointment, “Would you look at the size of that?”

“Aw, geez,” Adam muttered.  “Don’t worry, honey, I think there might be some tape down stairs.”
