Eve hadn't called for him and he hadn't been speaking in her thoughts. She wanted to believe he would find some sort of decency to apologize, but she was kidding herself. He was Satan, after all.
Walking by a fresh market, Eve found the most beautiful bouquet of white roses and treated herself to them. She figured he could be the one pure thing in her sin infested life. She smiled kindly at the cashier before taking off and bumping into a passerby. "Whoa! Sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going." Eve apologized without looking up.
"It's okay. I don't always look either." His voice deep and too familiar.
Eve's stare immediately landed on his smile, feeling suddenly angry at the person before her. He noted the change in her expression. "Evie? What's wrong?" He asked.
"Nothing. I have to go." She attempted to rush away, but he grabbed her.
"Don't leave me, please. I want to talk to you." His voice grew softer.
"About what?"
"Why did you leave me the way you did a few weeks ago?" He wondered.
Eve's thoughts played back to everything that has transpired within the last few weeks, growing more angry by the minute. "You're kidding me, right?"
His eyes perked at her tone. "I-I'm not. Why would you-"
"You don't see me! You never did! I've known you forever Jin and now you've seen I may have changed my hair or lost a little weight suddenly you notice me? What kind of fool do you think I am?"
Jin fell heavy with guilt because of her words. "Evie..."
Evie?
Eve released a jagged gasp. "Don't call me that!" She shouted.
"That's what I've always called you." Jin answered. "You're not entirely wrong but..."
I've always noticed you. She heard in unison.
You're different, and I see that.
Eve bit back tears as she glared at Jin. "Is this what you like to do? Am I the first person you've done this to? I'm just a game to you!"
No.
"You're not. I have always liked you. It's just now you seem more confident than you used to be, and I admire that."
I admire you. You're not like these other filthy apes of this world.
Eve blinked at his words as if she was seeing him before, furthering her anger. "Right! You're full of it! Why don't you find some humanity in your dark, selfish soul? Or better yet, release the helpless vessel that you're inhabiting. Maybe he could teach you something about these filthy apes you despise so much!"
"Evie, what are you talking about?" Jin held a look of confusion on his face. Eve did a double take as Jin's face came into focus.
I want to see you.
"I don't want to see you. Leave me alone!" Eve hurried away from Jin, furious at their explanations, fuming more on Lucifer's words than Jin.
See me Eve. Please.
