Casey's P.O.V

Opening my eyes, I found myself staring up at a gray ceiling. For some reason, I couldn't remember falling asleep. I ran both hands on my sides, reaching for the holsters, but realized that I was unarmed. The same applied to the archery set and bracelets, once they were discovered to be missing.

Then I recalled the attack on the Helicarrier, watching Phil get run through with the scepter and Craig getting knifed in the gut. I had a horrible feeling about everything and hoped everyone else made it through.

Upon seeing my new surroundings, I sat straight up and realized I was in a bedroom. The curtains were shut, which made it hard to see where I was. Determined to find out where in the world I was, I got on my feet and was about to look through the curtains when I felt a familiar pair of cold hands wrap around me from behind.

"What the frak?!" I gaped, turning to find Loki smiling at me. "Where are we?! Why did you take me?!"

"As I have told you earlier," Loki replied. "You're mine."

I took two steps back. He was way over his head, claiming me like some possession.

I'd dealt with Craig's rants before. The ones where he insisted we were still together even after I'd ended things.

"There is nothing to fear, Casey," Loki continued. "I love you."

The words hit me harder than the Helicarrier explosion.

I laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because it was insane.

"Love?" My voice cracked. "You stabbed my guardian through the chest."

Something flickered across Loki's face.

Not guilt.

Not quite.

Regret, maybe.

"Necessary sacrifices are often mistaken for cruelty."

Rage surged through me.

"Necessary?"

"You see monsters and heroes. Midgard always does." His gaze softened. "I see a universe far more complicated than that."

"Don't."

"Don't what?"

"Don't stand there pretending you're misunderstood."

For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then Loki stepped closer.

Not threatening.

Not forceful.

Just close enough that I could see exhaustion beneath his confidence.

"You look at me differently."

My stomach dropped.

Because part of me knew exactly what he meant.

I tried using my telekinesis when he stepped closer to me, but nothing happened.

"What?" I gaped, seeing that it didn't work.

"Your power is no match for mine," he stated, reading my confused expression.

I was about to back up when Loki pulled me towards him like before.

His lips pressed against mine.

My heart betrayed me.

Every instinct told me to shove him away, to remember Phil's blood on the Helicarrier floor, to remember the terrified civilians of Stuttgart fleeing.

Yet that same spark was there again.
