The Dangers of Woodbury

I cautiously walked as quiet as I could through the woods, holding my knife tightly in my hand, the supplies I've gathered in a knapsack zipped tight on my back. All I heard was the rapid beating of my heart, my breath deep and the crunching of the leaves as I took each step. I heard moans and groans, but they're not worth killing. They're far enough anyways so I ignore them.

It's been 4 years since I lost my mom. She hadn't come back, and I remember trying to look for her for literally 2 weeks until I found a group and began giving up on her. The group taught me how to fight against this world, and I was thankful. 2 years later, we found an actual safe place-er-town to be exact.

Woodbury.

Headed by a lame ass man who calls himself 'The Governor'. He took all of us in and took care of us, and we were all under his command in return. The people there were quite happy and it's like they haven't abandoned their sophisticated lives yet judging by their annual Sunday barbecues and birthday parties. I'm even surprised they kept track of the days. That's the only thing I find amazing about them, but besides that, I think they're stupid for living their lives like this apocalypse never happened.

They're used now to having guards like me protecting them all the time. They're relying on us all the time and in return, they scold us for the simplest things. Like accidentally bumping them from behind, or forgetting their names. Like, who's supposed to remember everybody? And I'm not good enough with names. Oops.

I'm not used to living in a world with assholes much more deadlier than the infected themselves.

"Arabella, focus" I hear someone hiss and nudge me. I glance over beside me to see Ben, a friend I've been hanging out with since I got here. He's the only decent asshole I've met after all this shit happened.

"I hate doing these things, I'd rather massage the Governor's feet" I hiss, hearing Ben chuckle lightly.

"Well, I don't think you'd say that if you knew the Governor's feet had feet fungus" He smirks as he stabs his knife into an infected's head when it leaped at him from nowhere.

"It's better than risking your life out here" I reply, flicking my hair away from my face.

"And who knows? Maybe the governor had beautiful feet with insanely amazing ankles sculpted by the gods?" I add and I hear him chuckle again.

"You really are something, Cole"

I wink at him and focused back on our tracks back to Woodbury.

If you look at Woodbury, all you would see is a whole town, with shops and houses, and happy people telling stories. You'd actually be thankful if you ever got a chance to stay here. People worshipped The Governor, Philip was his real name, but only his minions know that. They worshipped someone who was able to give them only so much for them to survive.

But me, you know what I see? I see idiots who worship a murderer, a killer, a liar. They don't know how Philip's been getting all these supplies, and they don't bother asking, as long as they benefit from it. Selfish brats. He's been scouting areas and killing people, raiding their supply and bringing it back to Woodbury and claims that he was 'lucky' that he had found it. But I know someday, his luck will run out, and the people will really see the monster he is. No one just finds a couple of perfectly working cars in the middle of the road, or tanks being offered for free by some soldiers. I know he killed to get them. And he might think I'm praising him for what he's doing, but I'm just against everything he is.

We made our way towards the large metal front gates of Woodbury. Claire, Ben's good friend, stood guard and her face lights up at the sight of Ben.

And by a good friend, I mean a good friend who 'entertains' him when he's 'bored'...

.... but that's none of my business.

"You're back!" Claire squeals. I look away and roll my eyes. Ugh.

"Of course, I have to be back for you" Ben smiles and I stare at them. Are we gonna stay here the whole night?

"Open the door or I'll shoot Ben in the head" I growl up at Claire.

She just giggles down and smiles at me. "Hello to you too, Arabella"

I roll my eyes went in the second the gates opened, leaving Ben behind. I see The Governor standing with his arms crossed and smiling towards Ben and I.

I tossed the knapsack on the ground in front of him. Ben mirrored my actions.

"Good work as usual, Arabella" Governor Philip pats my head. I roll my eyes and fake smiled.

"Thank you, oh mighty gorvernor" I say, whispering the last part. That fake son of a bitch.

I began walking away from him when he calls out my name. I turn to look at him and he motions for me to come to him with his pointer finger.

What does the princess want now?

"I've held an Asian and his girlfriend hostage and they're in the warehouse right now" He says pulling me aside to the shade under a tree. I mentally groan.

Goddamn it, Philip. Not again.

"So?" I reply.

"You're a good shot, guard them later"

"Why didn't you kill them like the others?"

"I overheard them when I was in a nearby town this morning. They have a prison, and I want it" He replies.

Spoiled brat.

"But you've already got Woodbury"

"We can claim the prison. It's safe, we just need them to speak up and tell us where it is" He whispers, still holding on to my arm. He looks at me with eyes similar to a cold blooded killer's, I've seen it only too many times.

"Why can't you just let them go and leave them alone?"

"Is someone arguing with my decision? Does someone need to be kicked out?" He says smirking at me, crossing his arms.

I glare at him and resisted the urge to plunge my knife into his neck. I would do that but I have to be wiser about what my outcomes will be. I need this place.

"No sir"

"Then you help around, keep an eye on them before I have the little talk" He says before patting my shoulder and walking away coolly, as if we didn't have any conversations at all. I grit my teeth.

I'm not his fucking watch dog.

I glare at him before he steps into his building, and finally walking away. I took my time, criticizing these two girls who showed off their dresses. I imagine the infected tearing it apart so they could dig their ugly teeth into the--

"Woah" Someone says as I bump accidentally to them. I looked up to see Andrea, a recent newcomer. She's also rumored to be the Governor's girlfriend, didn't think that Philip would actually have a girlfriend. But, I swore Andrea came in here with someone else, and they seemed pretty close. A (no racism intended) black woman with dreadlocks, and she used to have a katana that Philip took away for 'safety purposes' Psh. Safety purposes my ass.

"Sorry 'bout that" I apologize.

"It's alright, how's Philip? Is he doing alright? Did he get hurt?" She asks. Ah, typical clingy bitch who can't get enough of her boyfriend.

"No, he's fine. Anyways, where's that katana friend of yours? Uh... Michonne?" I ask desperately to change the subject.

"She left Woodbury"

"Oh"

"Yeah, well I'll see you around. Keep up the good work" She says giving me a thumbs up before walking away. Michonne, left Woodbury huh. I kinda liked her despite her creepy stares and mental criticisms about people she despises. She's also smart, she figured out the Governor and decided to save herself.

I decided to head up in my room to get a shut eye before watching over the Asian and his girlfriend.
