↠ Hunting Gone Wrong
I stare at my mother's smile in the picture, tracing my fingers lightly on her face. Her smile was the first thing I noticed about her when I was young. It was so bright, that I thought the monsters under my bed and in the closet were scared of it. Her smile was the last thing I see before going to bed, and the first thing I see when I wake up. And her smile always went perfectly with her happy brown eyes, making sure the smiles she gave was only for me. I would give anything to see her smile again, just one more time.
"Ella?"
I wiped my tears away and placed it in my back pocket. I looked away and sighed before turning to Carl, who was leaning against the cell's gate frame.
"Yeah, uh, what's up?" I ask. He smiles softly at me and walks closer and sits inches away from me.
"You alright?" He asks, as we both stare at the wall in front of us.
"Yeah, just.. Yeah" I sigh looking down and fiddling with my fingers. Carl looks at me before staring back into the wall, silence dominating the whole cell.
"So, how was your talk with your dad?" I ask facing him and breaking the silence. He shrugs.
"Tell me" I urge.
"I told him I was sorry, and we hugged. And he was happy and thankful that you snapped me out of my anger" He replies and I smile at him widely.
"That's good, now that you're okay. Just always keep it inside your head that we are all here for you, and you'll be okay" I say. He looks at me and sort of stares into my brown eyes. I ended up getting lost in his blue ones and they were the same blue as the sky on a sunny day. It was amazing actually.
"You know, I thought that we'd stay enemies forever, and I really didn't want that" Carl spoke.
"Then why were you such an asshole to me?" I joke and nudge him.
"I don't know, I was mad at first but when I calmed down, I realized that I haven't talked to a girl my age for so long...." He says covering his face with his sheriff hat. I smirk and grab his sheriff hat away and put it on my head.
"You know, it actually looks better on you" He says chuckling.
"Well sheriff, looks like it's time for you to retire, cuz there's a new and improved sheriff in town" I say in Rick's accent and winked. Carl chuckles lightly before shaking his head playfully. I take the sheriff hat off and wiped the top, dusting off the hat. I examined it and it was still in really good condition, but it was slightly dirty and stained.
"What? Haven't seen an actual sheriff hat before?" Carl asks snapping me out of my daydream with it.
"No it's just.. It's in good condition-I don't know" I shrug and laugh.
"You're weird"
"I know" I say putting the sheriff hat back on his head.
"But, it's not a bad thing you're weird" He says looking at me as I place it on his head properly.
"Yeah well, a lot of people don't like weird people, and you're actually the first to accept my weirdness" I smile and lean back, hugging my knees.
"Am I weird?" He asks.
"Nope, you're kinda the opposite of weird. You're so serious and mature most of the time. If you're not serious or mature, you're an asshole" I laugh and he gives me the finger and I laugh harder.
"Say Ella, we don't know much about each other do we?"
"I guess not, Carl" I reply.
"Alright, then let's get to know each other" He says before putting on a thinking face. "Let's do the basic stuff. Favorite color?"
