Chapter 8 || Time flashed before my eyes

KATNISS POV

"Class is dismissed," Mr Heavensbee announces as he gets up from his old chair and walks towards the doorway where he hands out the content of all the courses we will do this year.

I gather all my notes and slide them in to my folder, pack up the rest of my gear and rise from my chair and walk towards the classroom door.

Mr Heavensbee hands me the sheet of paper. "Thank you," I say as I exit the classroom. So many new faces surround me all here for the same reason as me - to safeguard their future with a degree and hopefully a well paying job.

The college is splendid and was supposedly only just renovated recently with sleek white tiles spread throughout all study areas, hallways and classrooms with a coloured feature wall in each room from colours purple to orange.

Exiting A block I am welcomed by the fresh cool breeze, the outdoor area isn't too bad either, with the well trimmed grass that seems to be maintained regularly and bushes and plants being pruned as well. Several fountains also dot the map, ranging from being enormously big to being rather small. I enter the Dormitory block and climb the stairs. Reaching the 2nd level I walk towards our dorm and unlock the door swiftly and enter quietly as if I were hunting in the Everglades-an old habit of mine. No ones home. I grin. I wanted to have some time alone anyway.

Entering the dormitory I kick off my Toms and run to my door happy to be out of my first class, when I enter my room the scent of Pine trees and Vanilla enter my lungs. I smile. Annie lit the candle, and there it was on my bed side table sitting next to my picture frame radiating light into the room. I lie on my bed the soft silky duvet relaxing the sore, tight muscles in my back. I pull my phone out off my pocket.

I fumble my fingers over the screen unlocking the phone and check the messages.
Annie: Kat...
Annie: Katniss are u there??
Gosh is she even paying attention in class? But then again that's just Annie.
I start tapping on my screen replying back to her.
Katniss: I just got bac from class
Annie: r u on ure own?
Katniss: at the moment yes... Are u even payin any attention in class at all?
Annie: I am...Partially
Katniss: well I'll leave u alone then, I'll talk to u later bye (:
Annie: have fun with Peeta ;)
Katniss: wat are u talking about
Annie: oh you'll see...k bye! Xx
Katniss: Annie what are u on about??!

But I never get a response, aggravated I chuck one of my pillows on the ground. What does she mean? Have fun with Peeta he's not even here.
But I end up jinxing myself because I hear someone fumble with their keys and unlock the door. The sound of heavy footsteps spread throughout the area. He's back from his class. I've been avoiding him all weekend; 'A' because I haven't even thanked him and 'B' because I'm afraid of a confrontation. Who isn't afraid of one anyway.

Grabbing the book that I'm currently reading 'Paper Towns' by John Green I enter the lounging area and sit on the White leather couch. I grab the remote control and flick through the channels till I reach the Discovery Channel, knowing there is always something fairly interesting on.

Leaving that channel on I open the book, where I enter a world where absolutely nothing exist, I zone out of reality... After all this is one of my only escapes. Reading for a good fifteen minutes, someone pulls me out of my little world. Slightly aggravated as I nearly finished the chapter and look up to see Peeta sitting on the couch opposite me. A small gasp escapes my lips as I watch him look up at me expectantly. All I wanted was to avoid him at all cost. I quickly rise from the couch but not before he says something that reminded me of my past.

"It was bad," he says
"Wasn't it?"

"What?" I ask completely lost.

"The accident." he says pointing at the television screen.
I look up and I drop my book to the ground, I become as stiff as anything. The accident. There it was on the screen, the accident I lost my parents in. Pictures flash across the screen of the scene. Pieces of metal, parts of the seats and even luggages are scattered across the dirt ground in all the photos.
"Flight UA13 crashed on the rocky mountains of Canada on the 25th of June 2012, one of the worst and unsolved accidents known to man. Once investigators got to the crash sight, they went searching for the Black Box, but with no result. They searched for days and days but they never found it, not a single trace. Controversy still remains whether, the plane was hijacked or if it even had a Black Box, some speculations say the Black Box was taken from the sight, after the plane crashed - before the officials arrived." The male voice booms through the television. I stare at the screen in complete and utter shock. My eyes widen and fingers tremble nervously. They have not once discussed the incident so openly, other then news reports when the crash occurred... Why now? It was two-

"Katniss," he says.
"Are you alright?"

"Huh? Yeah of course I'm fine,"
"Why wouldn't I be fine?" I say rather too fast.

"Ohh, it was just that you um you-" he stumbles over his words but finally finishes with a clear statement.
"Never mind." He sighs while shaking his head.

"I've got to go," I say quite rushed. I hurriedly race to my door and seal it shut. I lean against the doorframe shock of the events that just occurred in the last five minutes. I lock the door and walk to the balcony where I sit on the rough stone tiles. I watch waves crash against each other whilst the salty breeze blows my hair in several directions all at once. Thinking back to the memories of me and my family when we all went to the beach every Sunday, I couldn't help but bring a small smile to my face.

"Let me go!" I laughed as I pounded against my dads back.

"Not until we get to the water," he said, I could tell he was grinning by the way he said the phrase which made a smile form on my face as well. My dad took long strides so it didn't take long till we reached the Ocean. The waves bubbled and turned to foam as it crashed against the water pulling the sand and shells into the Atlantic sea.

"Here we go!" He exclaimed as we entered the shallow water. Slowly the water got deeper and deeper until it reached his mid abdomen and I was barely keeping my head above the water.

"Dad!" I said coughing and sputtering as water went up my nose, but a smile was still plastered on my face.

"Ok now, I'm going to count to three," he said
"One,"
"Two,"
Three!" He exclaimed and threw me in the water.

A tear slipped down my cheek, I miss those days so much. So many questions about the accident that never got answered will always haunt my thoughts but one question that won't seem to exit my head is; what am I going to do with that boy?

Omg guys thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For the 5000 reads I love you all so so much every single one of you, to me that is such a huge milestone. I think two months ago I was thanking you all for 500 reads and now I've got 10 times as many!!! That's insane!!!

Merry Christmas to all of you as well I hope you guys had a very special Christmas I know I did, and I hope you all had an amazing time with family and friends because I guess that's what Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus (if your religious) with your loved ones.

I'm sorry if this chapter was boring, but things will start to heat up soon don't worry 😉 and I'm sorry for not updating any earlier, I really don't have an excuse for it, but I am determined to edit these chapters before I start the next because the first few chapters I feel like are terribly written and I want to fix some of those lousy mistakes and bad descriptions etc. before I go on any further. Also please give me some feedback I love hearing from you guys, and your opinions do count! So if you have any feedback please leave a comment.
