The bell rang and she darted for the door. She couldn't stand that school anymore. McCutcheon High School, the place she hated the most. She hated it more than her house (and she avoided going home as much as possible.) The only people she ever talked to were her friends; Jasper, Enya, and Aspen. They were all odd. Everyone else avoided her like the plague, but she didn't mind because she did the same to them.
As she walked out the school doors she found Aspen waiting for her. He's leaning up against his silver jeep compass in the parking lot.
"You alright?" he says.
"Yeah, I'm fine" She says snarkily.
"Yeah 'cause that's definitely the sound of someone who's happy. Come on lighten up it's the last day of our junior year! This is our last summer break of high school and after next year, we're home free!"
Apryl just hops in the passenger seat, ignoring him.
"Can you just take me to your house now?" she says with a sigh.
"Fine." he says as he hops in the driver's seat. "Buckle up."
"How about, no." she says while giving him a stern look. He looks at her as if he's going to jump over the seat and buckle her himself. As he does she buckles up and he starts to drive her home."We're making a pit stop." Aspen says as he turns onto a street away from his houses. Apryl just sits there and lets out a sigh, knowing exactly what he's doing.
"Where are you taking me now?"
"You'll see." He says with a smirk
He continues driving down the road and stops at a cafe in town.
"Let's go." Aspen chuckles
"Do I have to?" she sighs as Aspen forcefully pulls her out of the car and into the small cafe. As they walk in Apryl instantly sees Jasper and Enya. Aspen waves and pushes Apryl to go sit down with them as he walks to the counter to order drinks.
"I want the usual!" she yells to him.
"I know!" he yells back.
"So what's this all about." she sighs to Jasper and Enya, knowing that they're going to pull her into doing something other than sleeping.
"SoWeWereWonderingIfYouWantedToGoOutWithUsTonightSinceIt'sTheFirstDayOfSummerVaycay!" Enya says so fast that any sane human being would've had no idea what she had just said.
"Do I really have a choice?" she says
"Sorry but no." Jasper laughed, "If you want to stay the night at Aspen's then you have to come with us. Or you could just go home, I guess."
"Oh come on, that's not even fair." she sighed.
"Sorry, but that's my rules for the night" Aspen says as he walks back with their drinks and hands her a plain vanilla iced coffee. "Also, we really need to update your coffee style."
"A: my coffee style is fine, and B: . . ." she hesitates, "fine I'll go. What's the plan?"
They all cheer in excitement, happy that she agreed to come along.
"Ok so here's the plan," Aspen says, "we go to my brother's house, get 'Fun Juice' and head to the skatepark. Got it?"
"As long as I don't have to go home, then whatever. I'm down."
"Great, everyone get in my car, I'll be the designated driver." Aspen says as everyone agrees, and without saying another word everyone heads to Aspen's car.
As they arrive at the skatepark, after dropping by Aspen's brother's house, it was already dark. The only source of lighting they have is the one light pole above the parking lot. They all get out of the car and start grabbing their skateboards out of the trunk. Aspen gets out one of the two cases of 'Fun Juice' and starts handing out the bottles.
"Cheers to the first day of summer!" Aspen says, taking a few sips then giving the rest to Enya, who's already finished hers. Throughout the night, they sip on their drinks and try to make new skating tricks. Although, they were all starting to get highly intoxicated so they weren't all that great. Even Aspen was horrible and he wasn't even drinking. After having enough fun and the sun starting to come up, they crashed. Jasper and Enya passed out on eachother on one of the park benches. Meanwhile Aspen helped Apryl to the car due to her having a little too much "Fun Juice."
"So are you glad you came now?" He says, trying to help her get in the passenger side of his car.
"Yeah, thank you for forcing me out of my house all the time, especially tonight." Apryl says slurring her words slightly.
"Well, you try and get some sleep while I go wake these dummies up so we can go back to my house."
"Ok."
Apryl doses off while Aspen wakes up Jasper and Enya to help them into the car. Jasper doesn't wake up very easily and is harder to get in the car. On the other hand Enya practically woke up and walked to the car herself. She was used to it, after all, it was basically her everyday life.
After they all are in the car Aspen drive them all to his house. Jasper and Enya crash on the couch immediately. As for Apryl and Aspen, they go to his room and chat for a while.
"You feeling ok after that nap?" Aspen says while handing her a bottle of water.
"Not really, I feel sick to my stomach and light headed."
"That's normal, just ask Ms. Drinks-A-Lot downstairs. It's sad that she didn't even pass out because she was drunk, but purely because she was just tired." Apryl laughed at this, not only because it was funny, but because she knew it was 100% true.
"Now that I think of it im feeling a little dizzy." she says as she spaces off. "What the..." She spits out before passing out.
Aspen shrugs it off as he thinks it's from the "Fun Juice" and goes to sleep himself.
Apryl becomes concerned as she sees something that looks like a dream, but more realistic. Almost as if she's in a virtual reality game. She then sees her mom smiling at her.
"Are you ok my dear?" Her mom asks, and without her even thinking of the words she blurts out:
"For the last time mom stop calling me 'dear'!" The only thing was, it didn't sound like her. Yet her mother was still smiling.
