People say write what you know. I don't follow that. Someone gave me the best advice with writing and said write from personal experience, so I do.

A lot of things put into the stories comes from my personal life and people I have encountered through the years. Is it exact?  No, but adds a dynamic to a story and makes it more personal.

I also do a lot of research on different topics or pull from personal experiences. Do I go in-depth with every single time?  No, because it's my job as a writer to keep the story moving and you the reader, entertained.

I also don't write typical stories depending if it's high school or college or adult life. Everyone's experience is different, but we call all related some way with the topics.

The main focus of all the stories is family. I came from a big family. My dad had seven brothers and sisters, my mom had eight brothers and sisters. Both sets of grandparents were married until one passed away. My parents were married until my dad passed in 2003. If you wonder why I make father's a priority , it's because of my close relationship with my dad. I'm also close to my mom.

I have one brother and several cousins. 23 on one side and 25 on the other. Yep, I come from a big family. Hence why the characters have a lot of cousins. My family is a blended family that includes a stepson and daughter.

I wanted to bring the family dynamic to the stories while adding key elements such as humor, love, drama, and imperfection. Let's face it, no family is perfect. We all have our issues, but at the end of the day, we know who we can count on.

People want to know how I write, that's a key factor when writing, pulling from personal experience. I also want to clarify a few things, while I throw pieces of myself into the stories, there is a lot I never did like be an escort. Yeah, I've had people question me about that.

I did know the real Grammy Gray along with the brothers. No, I won't disclose their names. Trust me; my mom thought it was weird to read things she was part of in the Gray series. Nash is her favorite because of my dad who he is based on.

When you read any of the stories, remember the main focus is family. You'll understand the books better and hopefully get some laughs out of them.
