Dylan sat on a very high rock and watched Yue from afar.
The girl was trying to teach a game to Pipi and Yiyi.
She had drawn on the sand with a stick ten squares with numbers inside them. She threw a stone and then began to hop in the squares. She said the game was called "Hopscotch".
But Pipi and Yiyi seemed not to understand the rules.
They threw the stone and then ran to the opposite side.
Yue scolded them and then tried to explain again what to do, exasperated.
Dylan couldn't help laughing.
And he couldn't help but think about how beautiful Yue was with her short hair ruffled by the light wind of that day.
Dylan loved flowers and Yue was like those yellow roses that he never tired of admiring in the clearing. She gave him joy, lightness, tenderness ... And there was always that veil of mystery around her that intrigued him.
Watching her, suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind: Yue, in her "reality", had to be much loved. Who knows how many friends she had around her ... Friends who could entertain her in who knows how many ways and could fill her with gifts and cook for her who knows how many dishes ... While he? What did he have to offer her? A perfume in a coconut? A wreath of flowers?
A chicken roasted on the beach? A shirt made almost of rags? He couldn't make her happy, he was sure.
And suddenly he felt damn sad.
Yue didn't deserve a life like his.
"Dylan! Your friends are stupid!" Yue exclaimed laughing, as she climbed the rock to reach him.
She sat down next to him and gave him a big smile.
"Phew, playing with them was challenging! I'm exhausted," she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder.
He remained silent and Yue noticed, from his lost stare, that something was troubling him.
"Hey ... are you okay?" she asked, worried.
It was unusual to see him like this.
"Yue ... You have so many friends, don't you?"
"Hmmm ... I would say yes, but there are few of them that I really trust," she replied, after thinking it over.
"What do you do with them, usually?"
"Why do you ask me that?"
"I'm curious".
"Let's see ... We like going to the cinema, or to the games room, or to have a drink, or to dance ..."
He nodded, looking away.
"Someday I'll introduce you to them and we'll do all these things together," she smiled.
"Tsk"
"What? You don't want to?" asked Yue, surprised.
She moved away from him to look him into his eyes ... What was happening? Why did Dylan behave like that?
"Sorry, I'm just tired. I'm going to get some rest," he replied, standing up.
He climbed down from the rock and headed for his hut.
Before he could reach it, however, Yue ran to him and clung onto him with a jump on his shoulders.
"Hey! Have you become a monkey ?!" exclaimed Dylan, taken aback.
"Now tell me what happens to you. Why are you mad at me?" Yue muttered, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"You're choking me!"
"I don't care!"
"How can I talk if you're choking me ?!"
Yue snorted and loosened her grip.
Dylan walked over to the trunk where he and Yue often sat down to watch the sunset together and helped her down his back.
They sat down and Yue waited for him to say something.
"I ... I don't think once we get home, if we ever get home, you'll still want to see me," Dylan explained, blushing slightly.
Yue's eyes widened in surprise. She didn't expect such a speech.
"Why do you say that? We're friends, aren't we?"
"We're friends here. Because it's just you and me. But once you get home, you'll have all your friends again and ... You won't even remember me anymore. And you'll go to the cinema and dance and ... All those things. I don't even know how to dance! I ... Yue I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry you came here. You should be with your family, with your friends, having fun and living your life. I'm sorry. "
Yue watched his sad eyes carefully and her heart tightened.
She got up and knelt behind him, then wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him.
"Dylan, stop talking nonsense. I told you I have many friends, but I trust a few ... You are among those few. You saved my life, you idiot! Without you I would have died of hunger, or cold , or torn by wolves ... And instead I find myself laughing and having fun even on a deserted island! You're a beautiful soul, Dylan. And I'm happy to have met you. People like you shouldn't be left to escape, you know? When we'll be back home, if we'll ever be back home, don't believe that you will get rid of me so easily, "she whispered, pressing her cheek against his back.
In a second Yue found herself in his arms.
Dylan held her tightly to him, as if he was afraid to see her run away at any moment.
Yue stroked his hair and suddenly had an idea.
"Hey! I have to teach you something!" she exclaimed, rising abruptly.
Dylan looked at her suspiciously.
"What?"
"To dance! Get up, come on!"
Yue took his hands and placed them on her hips as she laid her hands on his shoulders.
"Follow me, okay?" she asked him.
He nodded, a little embarrassed. He felt awkward.
Yue sang a slow melody, with her sweet voice, and started to swing slowly with her body. He followed her movements, looking carefully at their feet to avoid getting into trouble.
She took his hand and moved slightly to make a small pirouette. Both burst out laughing. She returned to his arms and began to swing again. This time Dylan kept his eyes on Yue's radiant face. She was smiling. And he was so happy when he saw her smile! He lost himself in her big eyes ...
"Stop having all these fears. You're no longer alone," Yue smiled at him, stroking his cheek.
Yue didn't know why it was so easy to get close to him, she had never behaved so fondly with anyone before ... Something about Dylan made her look for a contact. She had known him recently, but she really wanted to see him always happy.
And at that moment, as he scrutinized her with his eyes so deep and full of sweetness, Yue couldn't help but stand on tiptoe and give him a small kiss on his cheek.
Dylan's eyes widened.
"What was it?" he asked curiously.
"A kiss," Yue replied, blushing.
"Oh ... And what is a kiss?"
"See ... When you care about a person, sometimes you kiss that person," she explained.
Maybe she shouldn't do it ... Maybe she was confusing him ...
"It's nice! I like it!" he exclaimed enthusiastically.
Yue laughed at his reaction, but stopped abruptly when Dylan's lips suddenly settled on her cheek.
He stood for a few seconds, gently touching her skin with his soft lips.
A shiver ran down Yue's back, who stopped breathing and closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, Dylan was inches from her face.
"I care about you, Yue. Yue has Dylan," he whispered, giving her another kiss, this time on the tip of her nose.
Yue blushed and smiled at him.
"Me too, Dylan. Now let's go eat, okay?" she whispered, just moving away from him.
That night, when they crouched on the bed, Dylan gently kissed her hair.
Yue pulled her head away from his chest and held it up to look at him. Blushing again, she gave him a quick kiss on his chin and then she curled back against him.
Dylan couldn't describe the feeling he was feeling at the time. Yue's kisses were like little electric shocks that made every single cell in his body vibrate.
He held her closer to him and closed his eyes.
Yue was right: he was no longer alone.
