Jin breathed deeply once, twice, thrice, before someone broke his trance with a loud squeal.
"Daddy, You came!", came the voice of a running little boy who jumped and latched himself onto a crouching seokjin.
"Of course I did, darling. Why wouldn't I?", jin said, patting the little one's back softly. His smile never leaving his face. God, he missed Youngjae so much.
"I-I thought you wouldn't come", Youngjae hiccuped, the thought totally terrifying for his 4-year-old brain. He cried, dampening Jin's shirt but the elder didn't care. His own eyes prickled with tears at the corner. He couldn't believe he was going to take Youngjae home. He was going to be his dad, officially. That was a thought which had lingered in his mind for about two years now.
Namjoon stood behind them, with a smiling jiyoo in his hold and a fond smile highlighting his features.
"Hey, champ", he greeted with a hushed voice, letting his daughter down and crouching down to level with the kid.
Youngjae looked up from where his head was pressed in the crook of Jin's neck. His eyes were teary and nose red as he sniffled softly, looking at namjoon and jiyoo with confusion lacing his eyes.
Jin broke from the hug and turned around to face the other two. He held Jiyoo and Youngjae's hand and joined them together. "Youngjae baby, this is jiyoo, my daughter", he said proudly, a kind smile on his face before introducing the little boy. "And this is Youngjae, sweetheart. Your soon to be brother!", he said happily.
Jiyoo shrieked with happiness. She squeezed the other toddler in a zealous hug as he reluctantly hugged back.
"Well, well, well", a voice called. "I see you're finally ready to take him with you, Seokjin-ssi", an old lady with a gentle smile made her way towards them. She courteously bowed to the men before offering them inside her cabin.
Jiyoo and Youngjae sat silently on the couch as the three adults discussed about some matter which was beyond their reach.
"So, One last thing which I want to make sure is, if he really wants to go with you". Seokjin was about to protest when she started again, her smile, somewhat compassionate now. "Yeah, I know he loves you and wouldn't stop about wanting you to be his daddy forever but as you know, he has been through a lot", she paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "and I'm worried that he might not want to go with you both since you already have a daughter", she said with concern, her brows creased with worry.
"But I don't see the problem with us already having jiyoo. Wouldn't he like a sister?", Namjoon asked in confusion, not quite understanding why or how his daughter could be the reason if Youngjae refuses to come home with them.
Seokjin squeezed his lover's hand under the table, anxiety rising inside his heart which thrummed loudly. Namjoon gave back a squeeze in reassurance but he wasn't even sure what the reassurance was for.
The lady sighed and took out a file from her desk, adjusting her glasses before opening a page and turning the file towards the couple.
"See, youngjae had lived with his grandparents for maybe less than an year or so. But he got quite attached to them and because they are the one who gave him away, his little heart broke. You wouldn't believe how much he cried for them to come back even when he hadn't much knowledge about whatever was happening-","I still don't understand what your point is though. I'm sorry, Sohee-ssi but he just wants love and we're willing to give it to them. Where's the problem?", jin snapped, though his voice was calm and low. Namjoon rubbed his back discreetly in a meek attempt to calm him down.
He looked back at the kids who were pretty much stolid, already dozing off.
The lady sighed exasperatedly. "Seokjin-ssi, you don't understand. I know you'll love him, he's like your own after all. But that's not enough. He's in a stage where he'd want both of your love. Undivided. And that can't happen if he has a sister. He'd feel like you love her more because she's your real daughter and when he grows up, he'll start thinking that you don't love him at all because after all, he's just another orphan", she concluded. There was an uncomfortable silence between them for quite a while since no one really knew what to say. Before anyone could say anything, another lady came inside and bowed. "Sohee-ssi, I'm sorry but I heard some part of what you said. And I have a suggestion", she said sheepishly, rubbing her nape in embarrassment.
"Ah, mia. It's alright. And yeah, tell us your suggestion. We definitely need it right now", sohee eyed the couple apologetically. They nodded their head in unison.
"I think the best thing to do is to make your daughter and Youngjae stay alone for a while. And then we'll ask Youngjae if he still wants to go with you guys. I know this sounds like a dumb idea but sometimes, kids are more sensitive and responsible than adults", mia suggested.
"That's actually a pretty good idea", namjoon perked up. He was willing to try anything to get Youngjae home because he wanted jin to be happy and Youngjae seemed like a nice kid and namjoon knew that he would love to have a son as well.
"Jiyoo, baby, come here", jin called his little girl who was resting her head on the sleeping boy's shoulder. "Yes, papa?", she asked, standing infront of him.
"Do you wanna play with Youngjae?", seokjin asked cautiously, as much as he wanted Youngjae to be home, he didn't want to force jiyoo to do something she didn't want. But the way jiyoo's eyes lit up and she jumped in excitement made him believe otherwise.
"Of course, Papa! I'd love that!", she said excitedly, going to wake the younger child up. She softly shook his shoulder and when his droopy little eyes opened, jiyoo gave him the biggest grin, dimples popping out, completely resembling her father.
"Let's play, baby brother?", she asked simply, holding her hand out for the younger to hold. Youngjae looked at seokjin, a bit hesitant at first but taking her hand when jin nodded at him with enthusiasm, a bright smile adorning his gorgeous features.
Mia hosted both of them outside the room and into the park while sohee smiled.
"I hope everything goes well", she said.
