When my blood sugar was back up, I went out to sit with my team. Jesy opened her arms to me and we cuddled in her big blanket that had stars on it. I pulled on Niall’s sweatshirt and watched him look around for me. He smiled brightly when he spotted me and I waved meekly. I blew him a kiss and he caught it cheekily, pretending to tuck it in his pocket.

It was so cool to watch my brother and my boyfriend play. They, along with Louis and Liam, were like four parts to one machine. If someone saw a play before someone else, they would run in to scoop the ball up and execute a trick play before the opposition could score.

They managed to win 4-0. I watched Zayn celebrate with his teammates. I was having very mixed emotions about him. On one hand, I wanted to be held in his arms forever and kiss his beautiful face over and over again, but on the other, I wanted to choke him until the truth came out. Because I knew, I just knew that he was hiding something from me.

“Pez,” Jesy said, snapping her fingers in front of my face. “We’re about to go and your boy is looking to see you before we leave.” She tied the blanket over her head in a regal manner and hurried out into the rain. I said goodbye to my family and found Zayn leaning against a wall waiting for me.

“What’s wrong? You alright?” I asked. He nodded and took my hand.

“Just didn’t want to walk without you,” he mumbled.

“Oh, you big lug.”

“Please,” he scoffed, trying to suppress a smile. He covered my head with his coat and kissed me outside of the bus because once we were on it was “ladies on the left, boys on the right!”

“Can we hang out later?” I asked.

“Of course.” He pecked my cheek once more and stood aside to let me on the bus. “And Zayn.”

“Yeah?”

“I know a lot has happened, but I, um…I love you and nothing changes that, no matter what I say. I love you.” His smile looked weak and sad but he put his hand supportively on my back.

“I love you too. More than anything.”

Zayn

I slept on the ride back home and when we got there, Niall reluctantly asked if I wanted to come over since Everly and Natalie were coming and he didn’t want Perrie to be alone. Of course I agreed. I drove her home and glanced at her every so often as she slept against the window. Her eyelashes fluttered softly in her dreams and she sighed blissfully every once in a while. When we got in, she insisted on taking a nap, so we laid down on her bed with a throw cover over us and slept for two hours.

“Babe,” I said groggily. “Pez, wake up. You should eat something.” She nuzzled deeper into my chest and shook her head tiredly. “Come on. You’re not going to get any better by sitting here starving.”

“Babe, no,” she mumbled harshly into my shirt.

“Everyone’s downstairs. I’ll make you anything you want,” I said as I lifted her up.

“I want caviar on sheets of edible gold.”

“You got it.”

“You’re so aggravating sometimes,” she stretched. I kissed her cheek and towed her downstairs, where she eventually settled for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She put a movie on while I made it and she groaned when I finally sat down. “My shins are killing me.”
