My resign

I aim my gun at it's head and shoot. It shakes it's head a bit but doesn't seem to really be affected. I thought that was it but it obviously wasn't happy that I shot it. It started boulders. "What the hell is this thing" I hear a soldier next to me say. I turn to look at who said it but once I look back I see a boulder coming full speed right at me. I start to run away from it. I thought I would die while in the army, but not like this. I keep running. I trip over my feet a couple times but I never fall. I look back to see if I can run back but as I did. "OW". I fell into a pothole. My ankle started to hurt more than anything else. I must have sprained it when I fell. I didn't even have time to register the fall when all of a sudden

I woke up in the nursing wing. "What the hell happened", I say as I rub my head. "That thing threw a bolder and gave you a concussion". I turn to see the nurse standing there filling out some papers. "How long was I asleep". "Four days". She replies before quickly moving on. "I'm assuming you want to know what happened, well.." she pauses before continuing. "We lost a lot of soldiers, we couldn't take down that thing but it retreated after about an hour, we all thought you were dead". She then stares at my shoulder. "I haven't seen that before, has that always been there". Confused, I look at my shoulder. I see a tattoo on my shoulder. The picture was two swords crossed and a shield behind them. There was a small word written in red across it that read "protection". "No but that explains why my shoulder was burning when I woke up, the only question I can't answer is why my ankles and wrists hurt". "Well you broke one of your ankles when you fell, the other could be twisted, but I don't know about your wrists" she finishes her paperwork and looks at me. "I need your first and last name". I assume she needs it for the paperwork. "Sydney Perez" I respond before jumping off of the bed. As soon as my feet hit the ground the lights flickered and everything shook. The nurse looks around before coming to a conclusion. "Probably a tiny earthquake" she said handing me a slip of paper. "Go to the chief's office". She says as she points to the door. I head out and make my way to the chief's office. I find myself in front of the door and head inside. I walk in on him eating an apple staring out the window. He turns and looks at me, then starts to speak. "Ah miss perez, you're finally awake" he says standing up. "Yes sir" I respond. The chief always intimidated me but i've been taught to never show fear. "I called you here because I want you to resign". "What!" I say raising my voice a little. "You took a pretty big fall out there. You're only 17 you have a whole life to live, don't waste it in the army". His words took me aback. I've fallen many times in battle but have never been told to resign. I thought for a little before I finally realized what this was about. "You want to leave everything in the hands of the warriors in the script don't you". He looks shocked that i figured it out but goes back to his emotionless state. "Whatever this monster is, it should definitely be left to them" I just nod my head and start to walk towards the exit. "I'll pack and be gone in the morning.'' I walk out and close the door.

I finish packing everything except the stuff in my nightstand. I start opening drawers and throwing everything in them into a bag. It was all just books, pencils, knives, nothing really valuable. I then get to the table top. There's just a picture and a lamp. I Look at the picture. It was a picture of me and my brother riding our bikes. It was taken right before he...died. "I'm sorry Luke" I say under my breath before putting it in my suitcase. I decide to sleep then leave in the morning.
