Finding society

Apparently while I was unconscious this monster had gone through towns and destroyed them. Everyone is hiding in a campout somewhere. There is one in every city, I just need to find mine. I walk thru the town wondering how many people lost a family member due to this. If anyone has, I feel sorry for them. I had no one and nothing to lose and they had everything. I continue to walk through the streets of a town many used to call home, having no idea where society went. It can't be too far from here. It starts to rain and I'm still in the middle of a broken neighborhood. I continue to walk not caring about the water dripping off my clothes. To make it worse, I'm limping because of my ankle. The fact that I broke my ankle is weird to me, but I don't worry about it too much. I make it out of the broken neighborhood and into the woods. There I hear the sounds of nature that I missed after 3 years of training and fighting. I continue walking, admiring the songs of the birds in the trees, and the smell of pine. I then hear footsteps from the distance.

I turned around to find a gun to my head, and a man covered in blood. "I just want you to know I didn't choose to do this" he says as he puts his hand on the trigger. "Travis what are you doing!" I ask with a shaky voice, fear lingering in my words. "I'm sorry Syd" he pulls back the trigger a little. "They broke me". He closes his eyes tight and starts to pull back the trigger. I shut my eyes just as tight, ready to feel the pain of a bullet going through my skull. I hear the shot but don't feel the pain. I opened my eyes. There was no gun to my head, but there was a man on the floor seemingly dead. "What the hell" I say in shock. The moment I felt I was about to face death was the moment one of my own classmates bit the dust instead. I look up to see a figure in the shadows lowering a gun. "LUKES!" I shout as I stand up and run to him. I proceed to tackle him into a hug. He returns it, and starts to speak. "The situations you end up in just get worse and worse don't they" he says like nothing happened. That's one of the many things I admire about my brother. He is always so brave even when the worst is out for us. I sigh, "if only fate wasn't set out to get me". We release from the hug and then I remember. "Where the hell were you this whole time". "I told you I had to retrieve something from a friend" he says with a small smile. "What were you retrieving" I ask as he starts walking away. He turns around, his smirk gone but the confidence still in his voice. "If I told you, you wouldn't believe me" He continues walking backwards and finally I notice. "LUKE WATCH OUT". he turns but as soon as he does

I slowly turn to see a woman holding wood staring at me. "Hello" she says after I fully turn. "hi , my name is Sydney Perez, I just returned after getting an injury in battle" I say, hoping she'll understand I need somewhere to go. "Are you in search of the camp in this city," she asks. "Yes"

We make it to the camp and go inside. "You should go see the leader, and tell her who you are". She says while pointing to a door. I assume behind that door is the leader. She walks away and I go inside. I see a woman sitting at a desk writing something on a paper. "Um, hello" I say trying to catch her attention. "Oh hello, are you new" she replies in a sweet voice. "Yes, I'm Sydney Perez, I come straight from the army". When I say that her eyes go wide and she starts to smile. "An injured soldier!". she say enthusiastically. She gets up and shakes my hand. "well thank you for your service, do you mind if I ask about your injury?" she asks. "I just fell in a pot hole and broke my ankle" I reply.  "Interesting, well we have a free room with the teenagers" she says walking back to her desk. "Perfect". "You should probably keep an eye on them, they try and sneak out". She handed me a scanner with a number on it "they are down the hallway on the left". I nod and say goodbye before heading down the hallway. I see a girl sitting near the entrance. She is reading a book and is wearing a black hoodie with her hood on so I can't really see her face. All I was certain of was that she had brown hair. She looks up for a moment before focusing on her book again. 'Well she seems nice' I think to myself as I walk to my room. Once I get there I unlock the door and walk inside. The room almost seems like a hotel room. It's funny how the world could be ending and people could still take the time to find nice furniture. I look around. There is a door next to the entrance which I can only assume is the bathroom. I start to unpack my things and finish within 15 minutes. I decide to take a shower before going to bed.
