DAENERYS pushed past the dark tent's skins, the sun blinding her sensitive eyes. Her lips were chapped, her belly loose and pain-filled, and her throat and tongue dry. Her heart was heavy as she stepped into the sunlight, shielding her eyes from the unforgiving rays. As her sight adjusted to the light, she saw emptiness before her.

Just by the number of Dothraki present, Daenerys can already see that the majority of her late husband's Khalasar had abandoned them. Her shoulders slumped once she spotted Vaegon and Jorah seated nearby. Once they saw her, they scrambled to their feet and made their way over.

"Daenerys," Vaegon exclaimed as he ran up. He embraced her just as Ser Jorah had gotten to them. She sank into him, feeling her sorrow grow. Drew in his natural scent to ground herself.

"Rhaego," Daenerys uttered in a hoarse voice as she realized her baby boy was missing. The son she'd seen in her dreams, with bronzy skin and long silver hair like Drogo's, braided and filled with bells. "Where is my son?"

Vaegon pulled away from her to share a glance with the Jorah. Daenerys noticed the discomfort on their features, and she felt dread wash over her.

"What is it?" She demanded.

"He never lived," Vaegon began to explain gently. "He never drew a breath. He was... beyond helping. Born sleeping, I fear. I'm sorry, love."

Dany felt the earth shift below her as her heart lurched in her throat. She wanted to scream to the heavens, but no sound would form inside her throat.

"He was deformed. Covered in scales with a pair of wings," Jorah confirmed Vaegon's words. "We took the liberty of burying him soon after. You have been asleep for three days, Khaleesi. We could not wait for you."

Even though the overwhelming grief of losing her son consumed her, she still wanted to find her husband. She'd already lost her child. Would she lose her husband as well?

"Drogo, where is he?" She muttered softly. "Please do not tell me my husband is gone as well?"

"He's alive," Vaegon told her, but his tone was not positive.

"Take me to him," Dany insisted immediately.

Though Vaegon thought it unwise to show him to her in the state that he was in, they relent. They led her to the area near the tent where he lay out in the open. Sun shone on his once again bronze skin as he sat propped against a rock in a seemingly catatonic state, dark eyes gazing into the nothingness. The maegi responsible for that had supposedly healed the Khal soon arrived, brought on the command of Daenerys.

As Daenerys touched her husband, nothing happened. She caressed his cheek, even kissed him, yet he showed no reaction. She turned to the maegi.

"Why is he like this?" She demanded to know. She feared to know the answer.
