Chapter Seven: Airport

Elliot

I hurriedly lug my suitcase out of my room, making sure that I have got everything that I need by throwing another glance back at my room before I leave it. Sighing, I pull my phone out of my pocket to check the time. I had another hour and a half till my flight left, but I had nothing to do.

I sit down on the sofa, letting the darkness take over for a second. It would be a sweet relief to close my eyes and let sleep consume me, but I couldn’t do that. Not now. Pushing myself up and off of the couch, I head towards the kitchen.

I brew myself a mug of black coffee, hoping that it will kick me into action. My chilled fingers gratefully wrap around the steaming mug, inviting the warmth. I just stand there for a while, letting my thoughts consume me as I travel to my own little world. Soon, though, the striking heat of the mug bites at my hand and brings me back to reality.

I bring it to my lips, taking a deep gulp of the coffee. I hear a door opening and then shutting, and realize that Mark must be awake. He’s probably exhausted from having so much going on this week, but he was still sweet enough to offer to take me to the airport.

I finish the coffee, so I dump the mug in the sink. Mark appears, dressed and all, flashing me a weak smile. He does look exhausted, but, no matter how much I protest against him taking me to the airport, he doesn’t listen.

“You know, I was wondering,” He starts, and I look up at him a little. My heart thuds in my chest, hoping for him to ask me o- No. I’m not going there again. “Once you’re back from Boston, would you like to come to my apartment in LA?” He asks, and before I can respond, he waves his hand to cut me off. “Just for a visit, I mean.”

“I know,” I say, my voice low and breathy. “Sure. That’d be nice. Thanks.”

“Uh, yeah. No problem.” He says, fiddling with his hands. He looks nervous about something, so I smile up at him and throw my arms around him in a hug.

“Be happy that Mrs. No Hugs is hugging you,” I joke, letting him hold me in his embrace. We don’t break apart for a while, and neither of us seem bothered by that. But, when I do, I hear a bell chiming. “You better look after my cat whilst I’m gone,” I tell him, ruffling my hair and pushing it out of my eyes. “Jake said that he’ll take care of her if I’m not back by the time you’ve gone back to LA. Here, this is his number if you need to call him.” I say, pulling out a pen and a notepad. I scribble his number down, attaching it to the fridge with a small magnet.

“’Kay, Ellie,” Mark says, sideways smiling at me. “I’ll make sure Sherlock is in good health.”

“Good.”

“Do you want me to take you to the airport now?” He asks, and I notice that I have an hour to my flight. Looking at the traffic from my window told me that the journey to the airport would be about, roughly, twenty minutes.

“Yeah, alright.” I say, wrapping my fingers around the handle of my suitcase. I lug it along with me, giving Sherlock one last pet in between his ears before setting off.
