She pushed open the door to my house and steeped in. The house was cold and empty; Mira-jane wasn't home yet, she had a council meeting.

The feeling of foreshadowing overwhelmed me, as she walked slowly to the front room. She gasped as soon as she peered inside.

She dropped my keys and crumpled to the floor. Mum was lying motionlessly on the floor, with bright red blood dripping from her mouth. Lisanna rushed up to her mothers body and weeped. She shook her softly.

"Mother!" She cried helplessly. But she didn't respond. Fumbling into her pocket, she pulled out her mobile and dialed a number. "Hello?" She breathed in her phone. "Its mother..." Then gulped. "Dad's back."

Flashback

Lisanna held onto Mira-jane's hand as they strolled across the park. Mirajane was 8 and Lisanna was 6. They were very happy. A loving mother who had looked after them and cared for them like every mother should. Not much could be said for their father though...

"What the hell is wrong with you!" A loud voice roared. "You live of my money, yet you spend it on stupid things like a birthday cake!"

Their mother wept as Lisanna and Mirajane watched through the keyhole. "Its Lisanna's birthday today," she muttered. "I thought we could all celebrate...

He raised his hand and smashed the cake box into peices. "I don't celebrate mistakes!" He cried before storming out of the room.

Lisanna started crying, Mirajane tried to comfort her. She felt like it was all her fault that mother had got beaten. No matter how many times their mother told them it was fine; they knew it wasnt.

He slammed their mothers to the ground and kicked her across the stomach. Thump. Thump.

Lisanna and Mirajane couldn't do anything but watch helplessly. They once tried to stop their father but...

"Father stop it!" Lisanna cried, tears running down her cheeks. "Yoir hurting mama!"

But their father didn't listen instead, he shoved Lisanna across the wall. Mirajane ran to Lisanna in fear but she had only banged her lip.

Day after day, week after week, month after month. Lisanna and Mira-jane's mother got abused until she was injured so badly that she was sent to hospital.

The police got involved and their dad was questioned. The house was inspected but the police didn't find any evidence that the house was hostile. Of course their dad lied and Lisanna and Mirajane were silenced.

For a month, Lisanna and Mira-jane were in the custody of their father. He starved them and gave them very little. Lisanna got bullied at school coming to school with reused clothes and never having new things. Mirajane was always their for her sister- but it was hard as they had different classes and we're in different years.

Eventually, Lisanna became sick and was diagnosed with severe depression and aneroxia. She bacame to cut herself with anything she could find such as nail clippers, math compasses and even needles. She hid her scars with her sleeves.

Until a teacher had seen her arm and she had become concerned. Social services were called around and found out that their father were rarely at home and had been neglecting them both.

Their fathers parental license was exiled and he was taken into custody. While their mother recovered, Mira-jane and Lisanna went into foster care.

They stayed with a lovely couple who had a cat and two twin daughters. Both Lisanna and Mirajane were very happy there that they completely forgot it was temporary.

When they had to go back home, they were reluctant but happy. Their mother was recovering and had got a good job and they moved states to get away from their past.

End of Flashback

Mirajane and Lisanna sat down patiently in the hospital. They never said anything to each other but gripped each others hand for comfort.

Suddenly the door behind them opened, they guessed it was a nurse telling them about their mothers health. But when Lisanna looked up into the strangers eyes, fear filled them once again and she felt like a young girl again.

"Dad..." she croaked.
