The wooden white shack sat near the calm river. It's white paint chipping and the yard around full of dead plants. It screamed deadly yet the warning never struck me hard enough to ever run from this place. It had been the one house that protected many from hail ad tornadoes.
How it still stood through all the crappy weather I have no idea.
Beside the dull area, Benjamin's car looked stark. It glowed brightly and if any residents were around I'm pretty sure they hid, planning to jack the BMW once the owner left the comfort of their seat.
I bet my first born child that Uncle Zane, the grumpy old man down the dirt road, was searching for his baseball bat. He definitely wouldn't let any youngster stealing the heaven sent gift from underneath his croaked nose.
Opening the door as quiet as possible, I looked to Benjamin with a smirk. "Make sure to lock the door once I step outside and only unlock it for me."
He snapped from his thoughts and glanced to study the expression I held. His eyebrows drew together, causing a little wrinkle to grow between them.
"Why don't I go with you?" He offered, struggling to get his seat belt off. It kept slipping from underneath his fumbling fingers.
I tried my best not to giggle while watching. Super hero beaten by a fabric seat belt, that would have made an interesting news article. If we come out of this alive I better call this detail to the press. I'm sure they'll need some new gossip.
"No, Navy. It's best if I go alone." I slightly put a hand on his. "You need to stay safe."
The small action caused him to freeze. Head to toe, he seemed paralyzed. That might have been the best chance to escape him without an argument but I found myself still too.
A long time ago I was a hopeless romantic. God, I believe to the end of the earth there was a perfect soul-mate made for me to love. Each moment I saw the way my parents smiled to each other my heart swore to end up that happy. To hold the one promised to me tightly every night and tell him great stories we created together.
Now though, romance felt like a ten gallon weight. Loving somebody while living on the street, that person could be used as a weapon to control you. It is an excellent threat people will use just to get what they want. So I never again thought about having a partner. A person who could be my other half.
Glancing at Benjamin and noting the bubbles in stomach, unwillingly I saw myself happy with him. Standing beside the damn super-boy, hand in hand. I know, weirdly cliché right? Me, the criminal finding herself attracted to the brave hero that she hated.
"But Rarity-,"he quit talking.
I fell back on my knees into the leather passenger seat. My palms took hold of his cheeks, gripping them slightly. His face grew warm and I traced with my right pointer the freckles under his eyes.
Those deep gentle eyes...
"God, I hate you."
Our lips touched harshly. I put all the desire and need into that kiss. The tingles it left racing down my skin felt magnificent. It gave me a sort of confidence to make it deeper.
He seemed completely taken by surprised. He didn't react at first then once the second came he let our mouths run wild. Against my hips, I felt him hold tight ready to push me at bay.
He never got the strength to shove. The harder the kiss grew the more he tried to get us closer.
"I swear you are annoyingly kind. It drives me crazy." I panted as his lips drove to touch my shoulder.
He looked to me and grinned. "I'd complain but the bitchy part of you is also a quality I find attractive."
I threw my head back. A laugh crept up my throat, ringing into reality. Here I sat (most likely) at the blink of death and yet Benjamin found how to make the situation less nerve racking.
"Tomorrow. You and me are going on a date."
I blinked. "What?"
"A date. Go get dinner, eat food, get to know each other, and all that fun stuff."
"I know what a date is but don't you have work and who will watch Blake?"
He chuckled. "Quickie is quite cable to watch the boy for a few hours. He's not as useless as you like to believe."
A cloud of an embarrassment came over our heads. It attacked me with the strongest strike. "I don't have any clothes to go out in though."
Sure a pair of jeans and a tank top were okay for regular outings but on a date, not so much. If I had a blouse it wouldn't have been a problem. Except I had none or even dresses for that matter.
I don't think it would have bugged Benjamin if I showed up in scrubs yet to me it seemed strange. Cinderella didn't come to the ball in rags. It was improper.
Homes, your starting to sound like an old lady.
"Then we shall get you some!"
"What?"
"Are you trying to make that your catch phrase?" He teased before resting his forehead on mine. "I'll have the maid, Harley take you to the mall while I shuffle around getting tomorrows shift off."
The gesture made a calm wave replace the unsettlement. It wrapped warmth around the coldness and blocked the frosty wind. He stole the problems, easily from my palms. There was no excuse tough enough to rip me away from the strongest man alive.
Our date was going to happen wether we liked it or not.
"What about Navy Night? Doesn't he have to protect the city?"
"At the moment, he is trying to keep a beautiful woman out of trouble. I'm sure the town folks understand he is trying to protect them by making sure she doesn't do anything bad."
I scoffed. "Cause if I make one simple mistake that is out of line the world is going to explode."
"Exactly! Now your catching on!"
"Go to hell," I grumbled.
"Only if you come with me."
The tingles grew into my cheeks and I turned the other direction, ready to climb out. This wasn't the time to argue. I had to face Dacio no matter how bad I wanted to stay there understanding Benjamin.
"I gotta go. Remember don't open the door unless it is me."
"Rarity, please." He begged.
No response.
"Fine, you have five minute."
I gave a quick thumbs up and the door fell shut, cutting his plead. The black tinted window hid his face from view. Not able to see the guilt any longer, my feet ran through the dead grass to my doom.
