The next few days went by smoothly. I hadn’t heard from Janay since our last discussion and I hadn’t overheard anything at the club about QP coming through and fucking some shit up. It seemed like things were starting to calm down. I didn’t have a shift later so Falen and I made plans to go out for drinks. Ivy even made plans to catch up with some of her old friends so that if we decided to come back to my place, we could be alone. My spirit was high so I decided to get up early and go for a run. Dancing on a pole was good exercise but it took a lot more than that to keep my body in shape. After throwing on some workout clothes and grabbing my airpods, I headed out. Down the hall, Janay's door opened and out walked some girl with QP standing in the doorway. They were too oblivious to notice me standing there.

“I had fun last night baby.”

“Yeah, it was cool.” The girl leaned in to kiss him but instead he gave her a quick, one-armed hug. She stepped back, clearly disappointed but otherwise still eager.

“When can I see you again?” She asked, playing with the fabric on his shirt.

“I don’t know, sometime when I’m not busy.” He wasn’t nearly as interested as she was and either she was stupid or she just flat out didn’t care.

“Will you call me and let me know?”

“Yeah, I gotcha.” They hugged again and he gave her butt a good squeeze before parting. When she left, QP finally looked up and saw me standing there. He started to walk in my direction and I had no idea what he could’ve possibly wanted. His eyes traveled up and down my body, undressing me in the depths of his mind. I felt sick.

“What’s up witcha Devyn?”

“What do you want?” I asked, visibly agitated. He flashed his smile at me, thinking it would make me put my guard down. When it didn’t work, he licked his lips and ran his fingertips down my arm. I shuddered at his touch.

“Where’s your fiancée? Shouldn’t you be somewhere with her?”

“Janay's out working while I handle things here at the crib.”

“And by ‘handle things' you mean sitting on your ass all day and fucking these random women?” He laughed with no remorse at all. I couldn’t believe the balls this man had to blatantly flirt with his girl's best friend. Janay was better than this.

“I ain’t fucking nobody,” he said, lying through his teeth.

“Whatever. Don’t you think you should be out in the streets while Janay handles things at home?”

“She’s a big girl, Devyn. It’s not like she’s out there sellin' dope in the hood. I let her handle all the big deals with people I trust. Bigger transactions mean less public exposure and I got a few of my niggas out there watchin' her back.” He reached up to stroke my chin and I stepped back.

“Why you trippin', ma? You way too sexy to be stressing over a grown ass woman who can take care of herself.” I hate to admit it but he was right. I’ve been doing way too much stressing over her lately. If the shoe was on the other foot, I doubt she’d do the same for me.

“Janay’s my friend—” He interrupted me with laughter but I didn’t see anything funny.

“You still claiming her as ya friend?”

“Why not? I mean, we bicker a lot but—”

“Look, Janay ain’t the same girl you knew five months ago. Trust me, she’s real grimy. Real shady.” I stared at him for a moment, processing everything he just told me. I knew she seemed different but could she really have changed that much over the past few months?
