I stepped off the elevator and headed towards my apartment only to glance down the hall and see Ivy walking out of Janay's crib. But I didn’t see Janay. I shook my head and waited for her to catch up to me.
“Hey Dev.” I didn’t respond. I opened the door and walked in, kicking off my shoes. When she closed the door, I turned and glared at her.
“What?”
“What were you doing at Janay's?”
“Who's Janay? I was with this guy named QP and he’s fine as hell by the way.” I felt my blood boiling. I was confused about so much shit and it made me mad as hell.
“Why were you with QP?” I finally saw how red her eyes were.
“How do you know him?”
“No, how do you know him Ivy? You just got here and you’re already getting into trouble.”
“Trouble? Damn, I thought I left my mama in Houston.” She pushed past me and plopped down on the couch.
“Answer my question.”
“I wanted to smoke but I didn’t have any of my old plugs' numbers.”
“I don’t assume you just knocked on every door to find one either, right?”
“Obviously not.” I folded my arms, waiting for her to continue.
“I was standing in the hall and this fine ass dude walked out. He had dreads and some drip to him so I figured he knew where I could get some weed. We started talking and lo and behold, he’s a plug.” I was seething. Not only was I not even expecting Ivy to show up, but now she’s doing drug deals in my apartment complex with this shady ass man-boy.
“Look, I couldn't care less about you smoking but I don’t want you hanging around QP anymore, alright? I know a few people, I’ll find you another plug.”
“Why you trippin', Dev? He’s cool and I like him.”
“You hardly even know him.”
“And you do?” I threw up my hands and walked into the bathroom to take a shower. Before getting in, I texted Janay.
“We need to talk asap.” I didn’t expect her to reply at this time of night but I needed an explanation or some kind of answer. Why was she nowhere around? And how could Ivy just waltz into her home and have a full blown smoke session with her “fiancé” for hours at night? After several minutes, I got out and wrapped a towel around myself. I pinned my hair up in a messy bun and went into my room to count my money. Minutes later and about halfway through, there was a knock at my door. Ivy peeked her head in, making sure it was safe before entering.
“Are you mad at me?” I shook my head “no” but didn’t look up. She sat at the foot of the bed waiting for me to say something and when I didn’t, she stood up to leave.
“Did you have sex with him, Ivy?”
“What? Why would you ask me that?” I studied her intensely.
“I’m a virgin Devyn, remember?”
“Yeah... yeah I remember.” I'd completely forgot and she had no idea how relieved I was to hear her say that.
“I think he wanted to but he didn’t mention it.”
“Good.” After counting and banding up the money, I put it all back in my duffle bag to take to the bank tomorrow.
“What’s your deal with QP? Why don’t you like him?”
“I don’t know him. But I’ve seen and heard enough things to know that he’s not someone you need to be associating with.”
