Eli stood off to the side watching as paramedics rushed to the aid of the injured. His attention was more so on DelMar as he conversed with Quentin, their voices hushed. Lighting another cigarette, he approached them, careful not to interrupt their discussion.
“…have to find out…”
“…can’t trust no one, not even…” Shaking his head, Eli continued inside to DelMar's office and waited for them to finish. Felipe returned just as Eli sat down to pour himself a drink.
“I handled that thing for you.”
“It wasn’t a 'thing', the girl was dying.”
“Since when do you care about that stuff?” Felipe chuckled. Eli guzzled his drink and poured another before responding.
“I don’t… but it’s complicated.”
“What, does she owe you some garganta?” He asked, pantomiming fellatio.
“I should cut off your dick and feed it to you. Have some fucking respect.”
“Alright, alright.” With a knowing smirk, he raised his hands and backed out of the office, bumping into DelMar.
“Perdóneme señor.”
“Watch where the fuck you’re going, cabrón.” DelMar said, shoving Felipe out of the way. Closing the door, he turned and lifted an eyebrow to Eli who was still sitting in his chair.
“Right.” He got up and walked to the other side of Ducati's desk.
“Look, I've been meaning to tell you… I have some information on where that missing shipment went,” Eli said.
“So do I.”
“Good, then what are we gonna do about it?” DelMar glared at Eli over his steepled fingers and hastily pulled a pistol from his waistband, aim centered perfectly between Eli's eyebrows. His nephew immediately went on the defensive.
“Wait, hey! The fuck are you doing? You can’t kill me!”
“Why not? You’re only my incompetent nephew who can’t manage to keep track of one fucking package. Or are you just a snake who sold MY product to my biggest rival?”
I looked down, stroking Nikki's hair as she finished her job. As soon as she was done, I hopped up and started cleaning myself. I caught her peering at me through the mirror, a satisfied smile on her face. My guilty conscience was having a fucking field day.“Never again,” I said, fastening my jeans. She crept up behind me, placing her hands on the counter at either side of me. I turned to face her, battling hard against the feelings that fought to resurface.
“Didn’t you say that five months ago? And before that, seven months ago? And before that, a year ago?”
“I mean it, Nik. I have feelings for Falen. This should’ve never happened in the first place.” I pushed her hand away and started towards the door. She grabbed my wrist, holding me back. Like clockwork, Falen's name popped up on my phone.
“I need to answer this, don't say a fucking word.” I stuck my arm out, trying to keep my ex at bay as I accepted the call.
“Hey, I’m in the bathroom. I’ll be down in a minute.”
“Everything cool?”
“Uh…” I breathed, holding back a moan as Nikki twirled her tongue on my neck.
“Everything’s… fine. See you in a bit.” I hung up, pushing Nikki away before she could go any further. She just laughed, enjoying this game of hers. I put my phone back in my purse, checked myself in the mirror, and reached for the door handle. She just kept pulling me back.
