Sleep was hard to come by that night. I tossed and turned the whole time. Sure enough, when I finally did get out of bed, Ivy and all her stuff was gone. I had no idea where she’d gone and I didn’t give the slightest fuck either. It didn’t surprise me that Nikki made moves on my sister, it was more shocking back when I assumed she didn’t. But knowing now that they not only had sex but dated too? Ivy couldn’t have hurt me in a worse way. Nikki? That was just another tick on the list of hurtful things she’s done to me. Everyone I thought I could trust seemed to let me down in one way or another. Well, everyone except Falen. With the way my life’s been going lately, if she wasn’t the next one to drop the ball, it’d be a fucking miracle. I glanced at my phone just in time to catch a call from my mom. Right, my phone’s been on silent since Friday night.
“Hello?”
“Devyn, why haven’t you been answering my calls? You had me worried sick.”
“Everything’s fine, ma. I just forgot I put my phone on silent.” Were you really worried about me or were you just worried about Ivy?
“Where’s your sister? I can’t get a hold of her either.”
“You know Ivy…” Did I want her to know about the huge fight we’d just had?
“I just don’t get that girl. If she doesn’t slow down she’s gonna get in a world of trouble. I wish she’d just get a good job and go to school like you, the fun isn’t going anywhere.”
“I hear you mama.” I’d never mentioned Ducati’s to my mom but maybe if I did, she would’ve kept Ivy on a much tighter leash.
“You sound tired, are you sure everything’s okay?”
“Yes.” The line was quiet for a bit. I knew she didn’t believe me but she wasn’t one to pester me either.
“Okay then, well tell Ivy she needs to call me. Don’t have me call her.”
“I will, love you mama.”
“Love you too baby.” As I hung up, I let out a huff before relaying the message to Ivy.
"Call mama." Whether or not she looked at my text was on her. Before I could put my phone down, I received texts from Falen and Eli, both demanding my attention asap. I felt something heavy in the bottom of my heart. Fear? Maybe. Eli interrupted my reply to Falen.
“Hel—”
“Devyn, you need to meet me right fucking now.”
“Why?” My voice cracked. Yep, that was definitely fear.
“If you value your life at all, you’ll stop asking questions and do what the fuck I tell you to do. Meet me at the club in an hour and don’t keep me waiting."
“Shit… okay.” After he hung up, I dialed Falen. She answered almost immediately.
“Devyn.”
“Falen what’s going on? There’s so much weird shit happening.”
“Someone tipped off the police about the operations at Ducati’s. The guns, the narcotics, all of it. They’re planning a raid tonight.” My head was spinning. So much was going wrong so fast. I barely even heard what Falen said to me next as I threw on some jeans and a hoodie.
“Devyn, are you listening? I told you not to go in tonight. DelMar’s not just gonna lay down and take that shit.”
“How do you know about this?” I felt like I was moving at 100 mph but I was still cool enough to know something wasn’t right. Falen's silence told me I was right to have suspicions.
