After washing up once more, I crept towards my room to put on some clothes. I threw on something simple and opened the door to step into the hallway, stopping as I heard what seemed to be fragments of a heated argument. Kiana's New Orleans' accent rose above whoever she was talking to so I eased towards the end of the hallway to see what was going on.
“Ki—" She stopped yelling to look at me… and so did Falen.
“So why is Devyn here?” I narrowed my eyes at her as she demanded answers about things that didn’t even concern her.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it! Don’t be coming up in here askin' me no questions!” I walked fully into the room and sat on the couch opposite their commotion. Falen eyed me then looked at Kiana who was still tearing her apart.
“Nikki give you those hickies, Dev?”
“You’re worrying about the wrong thing,” I said, shrugging my shoulders.
“Yeah, that’s not her style anyway.” She scoffed.
“Falen, you talk a lot for someone who doesn’t know much,” I said, unfazed by her attempt to spite me. In Nikiya's defense, she certainly was one to leave love marks, but this wasn’t about her.
“Um, hello,” Kiana snapped her fingers in front of Falen’s face, demanding her attention.
“Let’s get back to the part where you were just leaving!”
“I’m not leaving until I get some answers,” Falen said, making herself comfortable.
“You don’t have the right to demand shit, okay? You fucked us over,” Falen rolled her eyes as if she was above the drama that she was causing.
“And for some reason, you want us to hate each other so bad but we clearly don’t,” Kiana said, her accent slowly fading back into the sultry Georgia-Nola mixture. I dipped my head, unable to hide the smirk on my face as Falen grew more and more upset with us.
“You can’t handle this, can you? You thought you’d just play us and that be the end of it?”
“What, so this is some kinda stunt?”
“Neither of us care enough to pull stunts,” I said. The Falen I saw today was nothing like who I’d previously been interested in. I still had no idea what her endgame was or what she’d gained by fucking both of us over. Looking at her now, she was so… broken. I almost felt sorry for her. Good thing I didn’t though.
“Why do you even care though? Why are you here?” I asked, getting up to stand next to Kiana.
“You don’t respect Kiana and you damn sure don’t respect me, so what is your game, Falen? What are you getting out of this?”
“Besides enjoyment,” Kiana added.
“There is no game. I just don’t get how y’all are so close all of a sudden.” I looked at Kiana the same way she looked at me.
“What?” We asked in unison.
“We’ve been close. Before there was ever a you, there was already a friendship between us.”
“A ‘friendship’?” Falen scoffed, clearly not buying what we’re selling.
“Um, yeah…”
“This…” Kiana started, wrapping her arms around my waist and trailing a hand further down,
“was a recent development.” Falen fought hard against what Kiana was trying to bring out of her.
