Her Worries

Monday rolled by and before Jonah left, he gave Madi a ride to school. It was six in the morning. She came to school early for a purpose. The night before, she didn't get her normal goodnight text nor her good morning one this morning. It scared her. Since Mark and her have been dating, that has been a tradition for them; that every night and morning, there will be a text.

"He probably just fell asleep and he's just busy this morning," she whispered to herself as she walked to the front of her school. Before she stepped foot on the tiled floor, she looked behind, trying to look for his car. There it was, the blue Honda Civic Si.

After getting the assurance that he is there, she strolled off to his classroom, waving to the guards that roamed around the school. There were also some teachers coming from the copy room she greeted good morning.

It wasn't her green tea latte that was making her hands clammy; it was the nervousness that was flowing throughout her body. Madison's not sure why she's all of a sudden nervous but there's just that gut feeling, where she feels from the tips of her fingertips to her manicured toes that something will happen; something bad.

Softly, her knuckles made contact with the door in a gentle knock. She did that three times before entering. And there he was. Mark was sat on the leather swivel chair, writing notes on his paper.

"Hey," she whispered, smiling. She sashayed towards him, placing the green tea latte on his desk. Mark said nothing. He just continued writing.

"Okay then..." She hugged his neck, cradling his face against her chest. "Talk to me. What's wrong?" Slowly, he unwrapped her arms around his head.

"Shouldn't you be hanging out with the real bae?" He asked, finally facing Madi.

"I'm sorry, I'm not following..." Madison furrowed her brows, lips pinching in a straight line.

"Jonah." The furrows deepened, she was so confused.

"Wh-" Then it dawned on her. He must have told Mark that Jonah's the 'real bae’ Madison started laughing loudly. The frown on Mark's face turned into a scowl. He does not find this situation at all funny.

Quickly, Madi looked behind her and then gave Mark's lips a quick peck.

"He was just kidding, smarty. I'm grounded, remember? He was over for the weekend so dad let him come over since he's not really staying long. Calm down. There's nothing going on between Jonah and me." For a few moments, Mark didn't believe her. He looked at her hands if it twitched to twirl her hair and her lips if her teeth were dug in them. When they weren't Mark finally smiled, walking past Madison, closing the door and taking her right in his arms.

“I love you.”
