"What do you mean 'you were right'?" You say, crossing your arms.
"Neil and I have been..debating..on the topic for a while now. Needless to say, he lost the bet and I won!"
"You..made a bet..?"
"Yup!" She said, making an emphasis on the 'p'.
"Max wasn't in on this, was he?"
"Obviously not, Y/n. We're not that heartless."
Phew.
"W-wAiT, So Neil thinks I like Max, too?"
"..Not exactly. He, actually, bet that you didn't like Max. I bet him the exact opposite. So, no, Neil doesn't think you like Max."
Nervously, you look down. Nikki notices your uncomfortableness, and places a hand on your shoulder.
"Don't worry, Y/n. Your secret's safe with me."

There's a moment of silence.
"Do you think he likes me too..?" You say, giving Nikki a distraught look.
Nikki pauses for a second.
"..I dunno, I could go and ask if you want me to—"
"Nonononono!" Practically screeching, you cover Nikki's mouth.
"Why not?" She says, swiftly removing your hand from her mouth.
"Because then he'll get the wrong idea and think that I like him!"

"..But you do like him!"
UGH.
"But I don't want him to know that! You know, just in case he doesn't like me?! God, Nikki! Can't you understand that?"
"..ohhhhh, I get it. You want to keep it a secret just in case he doesn't like you back! I gotcha."
Pinching your nose, you sigh.
"Just..please..don't ask."
She waits a moment.
"Okie-doki. Well, the sun's setting - I'm gonna..you know, go check on Neil to see what the escape plan is. You..do whatever you're doing."
Oh, that's right, you were escaping tonight.
Would it work?
As Nikki skipped away, you sighed to yourself.
It felt nice being able to tell someone about how you felt - but at the same time, Nikki didn't seem like a very trustworthy person who could keep secrets.
