A/N: There is minor 4th wall breakage.
As I reached out to comfort Rose she ran out of the room. I felt awful. It was my fault that Rose was left with Cath as a heartless mother. I was the one who suggested Cath, I was the one who willingly gave her up, and I was the one who didn't notice her pain.
I ran after her, wanting to tell her that we would work on getting rid of her mother's rule, working to make sure that she would never execute another person. Apparently, I wasn't the only one with that idea, as Raven took off and Alex ran after me. We followed plenty of twists and turns until I was lost, Rose obviously didn't know where she was going. I wondered what she was looking for. Eventually, we ran into a dead end. Raven cawed and flew up to a window, I knew what he meant.
"You think she used her magic and flew out the window?" He nodded. We looked at each other and all transformed into ravens. It took me a second to collect my thoughts, this happened ever since the girls brought me back to life, I knew that it would be worse when I transformed back.
We flew through the window looking for any birds in the distance. We spotted one and started flying towards it. I started lagging behind, I wasn't as fast as I used to be, but I was still able to keep up. I knew that if I kept this up I would be in serious pain when I transformed back. Nonetheless, I kept flying, we needed to catch up to Rose before we got caught by her mother.
Rose eventually landed in a tree on the edge of a cliff, it was a beautiful view of the moon. I could see her relax. Raven landed next to her, then Alex, and I landed slightly above her. She looked at us in shock, but also of relief.
"Let me guess, Raven, Alex, and Jest?" She nodded at us each individually, getting each guess right. She laughed at our awed expressions. "Come on, I know what Raven looks like in his form, while I know that Alex would be the youngest, therefore defaulting Jest to be the only raven that remained. So process of elimination." I was impressed, she was able to identify all of us. I knew that we had to get back before Adriel thought that the worst thing possible happened to us.
"We should get back," I voiced my concerns, struggling to keep the slight pain out of my voice.
"Yeah, Jest is right, we don't want Adriel to think that we were captured." Alex reasoned.
"Do you guys know the way back?" Rose asked.
"Yeah, I've flown a bit around the base for patrol, so I know where we are," Alex answered, I didn't want to say that I knew where we were too, I wasn't up for leading the group.
Alex flew off the tree branch with Rose behind him, then Raven, then me. We flew like this for what seemed like an hour, but it was more like 25 minutes. Either way, I knew that I wasn't going to be in good shape when I transformed back.
We flew in a different window than we flew out of. I was glad because I was sure that no one knew where we were. We flew into the same room that Rose had been in, everyone was still there, though I could tell that a few were about to leave. Whether or not it was to look for us I couldn't tell.
As we flew in Alex transformed back into himself while Raven was trying to teach Rose how to do so herself. I stayed in raven form, not wanting everyone to see what would happen. I wasn't sure what would happen, I had never stayed in raven form this long after the girls did their little ritual. Their warnings flashed in my mind 'don't stay in raven form for too long' 'you'll be able to gradually build up your stamina gradually, NOT all at once' and of course the dreaded, 'you'll die if you're not careful!' I mean come on, why does everything have to lead to death, aren't there more original plots? Come on authors! (A/N: The fourth wall! Sumereii's not going to be happy with me! Uh, you reader! Keep reading and I'll figure this out! Now how do you fix the fourth wall? WHAT!? KILL THE CHARACTER? NO WAY!)
Anyway, I stayed silent as the rest of the group hugged Rose, saying how sorry they were that she had to go through those things. The door was open so I started flying towards it until I heard someone whisper behind me.
"Jest, don't you want to spend some time with Rose?" It was Anna, I shifted and gave her my answer.
"I don't know if Rose wants to see me right now. I'm heading back to my room to get some rest. They," I said, glancing at the others, "They can comfort her better than I can," It was sad but true.
"Come on, at least tell her your sorry!" She picked me up and I winced, she looked at me concerned. "Are you okay?" The look in her eyes was kind, but I didn't want to be around people at all right now.
"Fine, just need some rest. I need to go to my room." I said I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted to transform back, on the one hand, it was a long walk back to my room, and with how sore I was feeling I wouldn't be able to fly there like I originally intended to do. On the other hand, there was no telling what would happen when I transformed back, would I really want everybody worrying about me? I knew that if I kept the pain in longer, the worse it would get. So I hesitantly transformed back into my human self.
Excushiation and pain consumed my body. I fell to the floor, unable to stay standing. Anna rushed over to me, asking what was wrong. I couldn't reply, the pain was too much, I had never felt anything like it. I don't know when I started screaming, but eventually, that was all I could hear. I don't know how long I was screaming for, but I could feel more and more people coming to look at me to see what was wrong, eventually, the pain was too much to bear and I passed out.
A/N: Hey! Sorry, this chapter is really late, I couldn't get around to posting another chapter, and I was more focused on my new book called A Mistake. It's a fanfiction about Thomas Sander's YouTube series Sander Sides, and if you're interested you should go check it out! If you have any Q&A questions feel free to ask them! Until next time, have a good time reading!
